Position Summary



Reporting directly to the Site Team Manager, Newbuild and Commissioning, the Machinery Superintendent position is in charge of the Owner’s supervision of the shipyard and its contractors/suppliers as it relates to the ship’s Machinery and Engineering equipment, systems, installation, and commissioning to ensure the Yard supplies in a timely, quality-oriented manner. He/She is to take upon themself a role to provide technical and operational expertise in Machinery, Mechanical Engineering in general, guidance and overall assistance to the Yard at all times and when so needed to ensure full compliance with the Shipbuilding Contract, Vessel specifications and appendices, approved drawings and equipment specifications, relevant rules and regulations set out by the Maritime authorities and regulatory bodies, operational expectations and delivery schedules. Continuous communication with suppliers, Class representatives, Flag administration and other regulatory bodies when so needed.



This position is located onsite at the Shipyards, you will be required to walk extensively, lift up to 20KG, climb scaffolding & ladders and work in a construction zone.

 

Key Responsibilities

PMO Governance & Integrated Planning

Primarily working with the following systems: 

  • Main Engine, all primary systems in support and drive
  • Propulsion systems
  • Thrusters, Stabilizers, Steering gear systems and PODs
  • Boilers and Economizers
  • Incinerators and wastewater systems
  • Pumps and pumping systems
  • Fuel and Lube oil systems
  • Cooling water systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • UREA and SCR systems
  • Bilge and Ballast water systems
  • Sewage and Wastewater systems/AWWTS management of grey and black water, solid and liquid, handling, and other processing systems.
  • Fresh Water generation systems
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Engine Room ventilation systems
  • Exhaust systems
  • Purifier and separator systems
  • Engine room cranes and lifting appliances 
  • Safety system and other essential systems which support the safe operation of the vessel or as specified in the vessel Specification. System configuration and redundancies where
  • Hotel and accommodation systems for potable water and piping systems are distributed within the vessel.
  • Machinery and technical systems ‘state of art’ and as specified to new technologies to energy saving and sustainability where applicable within scope of responsibility
  • Equipment and systems which are commonly managed through the build process here in SRtP, safety systems and others.
  • Structural fire protection machinery
  • General technical outfitting outside machinery areas where deemed required g., LSA, tender stations, shell doors hydraulic, etc.
  • Coordination on site and liaison with Owners and yard consultants, Makers, and Suppliers
  • Responsible for the review, commenting and preparing of approval correspondence for vessel plans, drawing, makers specification submitted by the Yard is attended to on time
  • Attend at the daily inspections, commissioning activities or as directed related but not limited to the above-mentioned systems
  • Coordinate, apply quality measures and in any other way assist the Yard in complying with the required standards expected the project is to be built to. Provide solutions which will benefit the primarily the project, the Owner
  • Support the technical definition and the installation on board of the Owner supplied systems
  • Assist for structuring the Inventory control system software (Machinery and technical equipment function hierarchy, parts, and planned maintenance routines)
  • Attend FATs and outside the Yard project activities
  • Attend Harbor Acceptance Tests (HAT)
  • Attend Sea Trials, Load Tests, performance tests, Noise and Vibration measurements,alarm and automation testing, Integrated system testing, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) trials, Blackout recovery tests.
  • Verify machinery performance contractual and operational requirements
  • Attend technical meetings with Yard /Classification Society/ Subcontractors
  • Assist in preparing the ship for operation by participating in the making of Engineering related standards & procedures in compliance with company requirements
  • Support the Site Team and the Project Manager on all technical related matters and make recommendations for activities within his/her responsibility in order to achieve highest


 

Qualications & Education

  • Bachelor of science in Marine and technical engineering (Chief Engineer STCW code unlimited power).
  • Proficiency in understanding Classification rules & regulation, USPH and relevant regulations applicable to the vessel newbuilding and operations requirements
  • Strong skills to read, review and comment detailed design, calculations which support engineering system dimensioning, technical documentation, and drawings.
  • Minimum 5 years in an onboard position as Engineer on a diesel electric propulsion vessel (Cruise), whereas at least 2 years and Chief
  • Minimum 5 years shore side as Superintendent / Inspector or other supervisory roles from vessel newbuilding and operations (Cruise).
  • Good understanding of ship’s operation, safety awareness of equipment and system design and any associated technical systems facing guests.
  • Required knowledge of USPH standards
  • Required knowledge of USCG and Port State Control Standards
  • Certification and other courses of relevance to plant design and
  • Be able to read, write and speak fluently in English (business and technical). English language required at all times while on
