Head of Transaction Monitoring

We are a London-based fintech company with a mindful approach to financial services. Operating under an FCA-approved Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license, MADFIN delivers card acquiring solutions tailored for fast-moving, high-growth businesses. As we continue to scale, we are looking for an experienced Head of Transaction Monitoring to lead and strengthen our fraud and AML monitoring function, ensuring effective risk oversight across our growing merchant portfolio.
- Own and continuously enhance transaction monitoring frameworks across fraud and AML, ensuring effective detection and prevention of suspicious and potentially fraudulent activity
- Ensure monitoring operations are scalable and capable of supporting increasing transaction volumes, customer growth, and the rollout of new products and services
- Drive continuous improvement in screening tooling, workflows, and data quality.
- Take ownership of the Risk Department, driving its day-to-day operations, development, and continuous improvement
- Lead the optimisation of monitoring rules, scenarios, and models to improve detection effectiveness while maintaining an appropriate balance of false positives
- Ensure monitoring frameworks continuously evolve in line with emerging risks, regulatory expectations, and partner requirements
- Collaborate closely with Product, Compliance teams and MLRO to enhance monitoring capabilities, including automation and advanced analytics solutions
- Support the preparation and submission of regulatory reports, documentation, and responses to the FCA and other relevant regulatory authorities
- 5+ years of experience in financial crime, fraud prevention, or transaction monitoring within payments, fintech, or regulated financial services.
- Proven experience leading or mentoring transaction monitoring, fraud, or AML teams, including workload coordination and oversight of monitoring operations.
- Strong knowledge of AML transaction monitoring, fraud detection, sanctions and PEP screening frameworks.
- Good understanding of regulatory expectations related to financial crime monitoring and reporting.
- Experience optimising monitoring rules, reducing false positives, and improving detection effectiveness.
- Experience working with monitoring and screening tools, data, and analytics.
- Good command of English.
