About the Role

This is the first attorney hire at a well-funded, early-stage AI-native law firm that pairs a hands-on litigation practice with proprietary AI tooling built specifically for litigators. The firm handles a genuine mix of work: defending startups and small businesses against nuisance suits (including ADA website accessibility claims and regulated-industry defense matters) and pursuing plaintiff-side cases in employment, consumer protection, and emerging class action and mass tort matters. The person in this seat will run cases end-to-end with real autonomy, no senior partner approval chain, and direct input into the AI platform that powers the practice.

The ideal candidate is a scrappy, action-oriented litigator with two to three years of experience at a boutique or plaintiff-side firm who is energized by direct client interaction and comfortable figuring things out across unfamiliar practice areas. You are not looking for a strategist or someone who needs structured mentorship; you want someone who picks up a file, gets on a call with a founder, and moves. A genuine curiosity about AI tools in legal practice is important, and any excitement about shaping product features alongside engineers is a meaningful plus.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Run litigation matters autonomously from client intake and engagement letter through discovery, depositions, and settlement or resolution
  2. Lead client-facing conversations to explain legal strategy clearly to non-lawyer founders and small business owners, build trust, and close new engagements
  3. Handle a diverse docket spanning startup defense (nuisance suits, ADA accessibility claims, regulated-industry matters) and plaintiff-side work (employment disputes, consumer protection, and eventually class action and mass tort)
  4. Use the firm's AI litigation platform daily and provide direct, detailed product feedback to engineers to improve tools built around your actual workflow
  5. Identify and communicate patterns across case types that can inform platform development, acting as a primary internal voice for the litigation side of the product
  6. Adapt quickly across unfamiliar practice areas as the firm grows and takes on new matter types
  7. Participate in quarterly in-person meetups or conferences, representing the firm in person as needed

Required Skills & Experience

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active bar admission in at least one of California, Texas, or Florida; admission in two of the three is a strong plus
  • 2 to 3 years of civil litigation experience; candidates with 1 to 4 years will be considered if the quality of experience and individual fit are exceptional
  • Litigation background at a boutique firm, plaintiff-side firm, or a firm handling both plaintiff and defense work; candidates from purely big law backgrounds without subsequent boutique or direct-client experience are not a fit
  • Demonstrated direct client-facing experience: intake calls, engagement letter discussions, or case strategy conversations with clients (not solely internal partner-facing work)
  • Proven ability to run a litigation matter end-to-end with minimal supervision
  • Strong client service instincts and clear communication skills with non-lawyer audiences
  • Comfort using AI tools in legal practice and genuine interest in working at an early-stage, AI-forward company
  • US work authorization required; visa sponsorship is not available

Preferred Skills

  • Bar admission in two of the three priority states (California, Texas, Florida)
  • Experience with plaintiff employment, consumer protection, or class action and mass tort litigation
  • Background at a legal aid organization, a startup, or any non-traditional legal setting that signals mission-driven orientation
  • Interest in contributing to product development, including working directly with engineers to shape litigation tooling
  • Existing relationships or a nascent book of business in plaintiff-side or small business defense matters
