Duties/Job Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the director of the Access to Justice Office, to provide simultaneous and consecutive interpretation for defendants, witnesses, and victims in court and for persons seeking assistance in the courts with the filing of petitions and completion of forms. To participate in continued professional development and training as assigned by the Coordinator.  To perform any and all other duties as assigned by the State Court Administrator and/or the Director of the Access to Justice Office or their designees.

Required Education/Experience:

Applicants must be deemedqualifiedto interpret in state courts in accordance with R.I. Gen.Laws § 8-19-3. At a minimum, applicants musthave passed the written portion of the Federal Court Interpreter Certification Examination or the National Center for State Courts CourtInterpreter Exam, and must complete an assessment of oral proficiency by the Office of Court Interpreters.  Graduation from a senior high school or successful completion of the high school equivalency examination required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.  A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Spanish/English interpretation and translation; successful completion of a recognized bilingual judicial court interpreting and translation program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Also, be advised that a new provision in RI General Law 35-6-1 was enacted requiring direct deposit for all employees. Specific to new hires, the law requires that all employees hired after September 30, 2014 participate in direct deposit. Accordingly, any employee hired after this date will be required to participate in the direct deposit system.
