Lead I - Software Engineering

About The Job:

• We are seeking an experiencedLead Backend / Cloud Solutions Architect with strong expertise in cloud-native application development, distributed systems, API engineering, AI-enabled platforms, and enterprise architecture.
• The ideal candidate will lead the design, development, and governance of scalable backend services, integrations, data platforms, and AI-powered solutions while driving engineering excellence across enterprise environments.
• This role requires deep expertise in Python-based application development, cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, API management, data engineering, DevSecOps, AI integration, and modern software delivery practices.

Essential Job Functions:
Solution & Backend Architecture

• Define target architectures and evolution strategies for backend services, integrations, data flows, deployment models, security controls, and non-functional requirements.
• Translate product and operational capabilities into domain-aligned services, APIs, events, reusable enterprise components, and platform patterns.
• Create solution designs, architecture decision records, API standards, reference implementations, and technical roadmaps.
• Evaluate technology options and build-versus-buy decisions based on scalability, reliability, performance, security, maintainability, and total cost of ownership.
• Lead architecture reviews, identify cross-system dependencies and risks, and ensure alignment with enterprise governance standards.
• Mentor development teams, review critical code and solution designs, and drive engineering quality improvements.

Backend Services & API Engineering

• Design, develop, test, and maintain secure enterprise-grade backend services and APIs using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, and Flask.
• Build reusable orchestration services and service wrappers for CI/CD pipelines, automation platforms, runbooks, cloud operations, and long-running workflows.
• Implement synchronous and asynchronous processing patterns using queues, events, workers, schedulers, callbacks, and workflow engines.
• Establish API standards covering contracts, versioning, idempotency, validation, error handling, rate limiting, auditability, and backward compatibility.
• Design authorization models and policy enforcement mechanisms at service and resource levels.
• Develop integration adapters for cloud platforms, identity systems, ITSM tools, code repositories, automation platforms, and enterprise services.

Data Layer, Integration & Synchronization

• Design logical and physical data models supporting service catalogs, requests, approvals, execution states, audit trails, operational data, and reporting requirements.
• Select appropriate relational, document, cache, search, and vector database technologies based on business and technical requirements.
• Develop repositories, data-access services, and schema migration strategies that separate business logic from persistence layers.
• Design and implement reliable ingestion, synchronization, reconciliation, and refresh pipelines.
• Define system-of-record ownership, canonical models, data lineage, retention strategies, and data quality controls.
• Implement transactional integrity, concurrency management, retries, dead-letter handling, recovery mechanisms, and distributed workflow controls.
• Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, caching, and connection management best practices.

AI, Generative AI & Agentic Engineering

• Design and integrate enterprise-approved AI agents that retrieve information, recommend actions, and execute governed workflows.
• Develop secure AI tools, API adapters, and MCP (Model Context Protocol) integrations connecting enterprise systems and automation capabilities.
• Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions leveraging search and vector databases.
• Establish permission-aware context controls, approval workflows, operational guardrails, execution limits, audit trails, and fallback mechanisms.
• Protect AI-enabled services against prompt injection attacks, unauthorized tool usage, data leakage, and excessive token consumption.
• Drive responsible AI implementation practices and governance standards.

Security, Reliability & Operability

• Embed secure-by-design and DevSecOps principles including threat modeling, secrets management, encryption, dependency scanning, and least-privilege access.
• Design highly available systems utilizing graceful degradation, retries, circuit breakers, timeouts, disaster recovery, and resilience engineering techniques.
• Implement structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing, health checks, auditing, and observability frameworks.
• Build unit, integration, contract, performance, resilience, and security testing frameworks with automated quality gates.
• Support production incidents, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

DevOps & Agile Delivery

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for applications, databases, services, and AI-enabled platforms using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and related technologies.
• Define cloud deployment strategies using containers, serverless platforms, managed application services, and Infrastructure-as-Code.
• Break down business requirements into user stories, technical tasks, acceptance criteria, and operational readiness plans.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives, technical discovery sessions, and delivery governance.

Qualifications:
Required Technical Skills

Backend & Distributed Systems Engineering

• Advanced proficiency in Python.
• Strong hands-on experience with FastAPI, Django, Flask, or equivalent enterprise API frameworks.
• Strong understanding of SOLID principles, domain-driven design, dependency injection, concurrency, asynchronous programming, and distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in REST APIs, OpenAPI specifications, and API lifecycle management.
• Working knowledge of GraphQL, gRPC, and event-driven communication patterns.
• Experience with workflow engines, background workers, messaging platforms, and event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Service Bus, Event Grid, Kafka, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, or equivalent technologies.

Data Engineering & Database Technologies

• Strong data modeling and SQL expertise.
• Production experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or enterprise relational databases.
• Experience with MongoDB, Cosmos DB, DynamoDB, Redis, OpenSearch, Azure AI Search, or similar technologies.
• Hands-on expertise with schema evolution, migrations, indexing, query optimization, backup, recovery, and retention strategies.
• Experience implementing data ingestion, synchronization, reconciliation, transformation, and quality management solutions.
• Working knowledge of vector databases and retrieval systems for AI-enabled applications.

Cloud, Security & AI Platforms

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms.
• Experience with cloud-native compute, APIs, messaging services, identity management, observability, and secrets management platforms.
• Strong understanding of OAuth2, OIDC, RBAC, ABAC, API Gateways, service identities, and secure service-to-service communications.
• Experience with enterprise AI orchestration frameworks, LLM platforms, tool/function calling, MCP, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation.
• Knowledge of AI service observability, governance, and monitoring practices.
• Hands-on experience with containers, Git, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, and Infrastructure-as-Code solutions.
• Knowledge of software supply chain security and DevSecOps best practices.
• Experience working with GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted software development platforms.
