AI Engineer

Mō te tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for a permanent full-time AI Engineer to help shape how AI gets built at Fulton Hogan. This is a hands-on senior role for someone who likes solving real problems, shipping useful tech, and working across a mix of platform engineering, architecture, integration and governance.

You’ll help build and run our core AI platform, improve how AI works across our enterprise environment, and set the standards others build to. It’s a great fit for someone who wants project variety, proper ownership, and the chance to grow a modern in-house AI capability that’s only getting started.

You’ll also be joining our growing AI Practice at an exciting stage, helping shape how we use AI across the business and playing a real part in where we go next.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

• Build, run and improve Fulton Hogan’s core AI platform, including integrations, monitoring, reliability and continuous uplift.
• Own service performance end to end, including availability, incident response, root cause resolution and platform health.
• Shape and maintain engineering standards, patterns and methods for how AI solutions are built here.
• Partner with Architecture, Security, Data and Infrastructure to make sure AI capability fits the wider technology estate.
• Support a broad range of use cases and technical decisions across model selection, governance, enterprise AI tooling and bringing capability in-house.

• Strong experience in software, platform or cloud engineering at a senior level, ideally with ownership of a production platform.
• Proven experience building and integrating AI or large language model capability in an enterprise environment.
• A modern engineering mindset, including experience with AI-assisted or agentic development and a practical view of what works.
• Confidence working across architecture, governance, APIs, identity, security and enterprise integrations.
• A collaborative, low-ego style with strong communication skills and a genuine interest in lifting the people around you.
