Strategy & Project Management Director – Digital Assets

Position Summary

The Strategy & Project Management Director will support the execution of strategic priorities across VEON's fintech and digital finance ecosystem. The role will work closely with operating company leadership teams to coordinate strategic initiatives, monitor execution, facilitate knowledge sharing, and ensure alignment between Group objectives and local market priorities.

This role is ideal for a candidate with strong fintech experience who can combine strategic thinking with disciplined project management and stakeholder coordination across multiple countries and functions.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Business Support

• • Support development and execution of VEON Digital Finance Group's strategic roadmap.
  • Conduct market, competitor, and industry analysis to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Develop business cases, presentations, and management recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Support annual planning and strategic review processes across operating companies.

   

  Program & Project Management

  • • Lead and coordinate strategic cross-market initiatives from planning through implementation.
    • Establish project plans, governance frameworks, milestones, and success metrics.
    • Monitor progress across multiple initiatives and proactively identify execution risks.
    • Track project dependencies, resource needs, and escalation items.
    • Prepare regular status reports and executive updates.

    Operating Company Coordination

    • • Act as a liaison between VEON Group and local fintech teams.
      • Facilitate collaboration and knowledge transfer across markets.
      • Help identify successful initiatives that can be adapted and replicated across operating companies.
      • Support alignment of local projects with Group strategic priorities.

      Fintech & Digital Finance Enablement

      • • Support initiatives across payments, wallets, lending, merchant services, cards, remittances, and adjacent financial services.
        • Assist in evaluating new business opportunities, partnerships, and ecosystem developments.
        • Coordinate cross-functional workstreams involving product, technology, finance, compliance, legal, and commercial teams.

        Executive Reporting & Governance

        • • Prepare executive materials for leadership reviews and Board-level discussions.
          • Develop and maintain KPIs and performance tracking frameworks.
          • Monitor delivery against strategic objectives and agreed milestones.
          • Support governance forums and steering committees.

          Stakeholder Management

          • • Build strong relationships with senior leaders across VEON operating companies.
            • Coordinate engagements with external partners and strategic stakeholders where required.
            • Drive alignment among diverse teams operating in different markets and regulatory environments.
             

Critical Skills & Experience

Fintech & Industry Knowledge

• • Strong understanding of digital payments, wallets, fintech ecosystems, and financial services.
  • Experience within telecom-led fintech businesses, mobile money, digital wallets, or payment companies (preferred).
  • Exposure to digital assets, blockchain, or emerging fintech technologies (preferred).

  Program & Project Management

  • • Experience managing complex cross-functional projects and strategic programs.
    • Ability to establish governance frameworks, milestones, and success metrics for multi-market initiatives.

    Strategic Thinking

    • • Ability to conduct market, competitor, and industry analysis to identify opportunities and risks.
      • Experience preparing executive-level business cases and strategic recommendations.

      Stakeholder & Relationship Management

      • • Ability to work effectively across multiple countries and cultures.
        • Experience working across emerging markets and multiple regulatory environments (preferred).

        Communication & Leadership

        • • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
          • A natural collaborator able to coordinate diverse, cross-border teams and functions.
           

Education & Experience

• • 10+ years of experience in fintech, digital financial services, consulting, strategy, PMO, or business transformation roles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
  • MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification preferred.
