Field Operations Manager

Locations: Allentown, PA | Candor, NC
Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Starting Salary: $100,000/year, with higher salary available depending on experience
CDL: Non-CDL position; Class A or B CDL preferred

Role Overview

We are looking for an experiencedField Operations Manager to oversee and support field teams working on railroad emergency response, derailment recovery, specialty lifting, railcar repair, and track-related projects.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can manage people, make decisions in the field, resolve operational issues, and maintain a strong focus on safety and customer service. The Manager will work closely with Supervisors and field crews and may respond directly to emergency service situations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct and support Supervisors across multiple field assignments.
  • Coordinate manpower, work assignments, schedules, equipment, and project priorities.
  • Monitor field activities to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with DOT, FRA, and company requirements.
  • Visit active job sites to evaluate safety, quality, productivity, and overall operations.
  • Provide hands-on guidance, coaching, and problem-solving support to field personnel.
  • Respond to operational issues and emergency service calls when needed.
  • Identify potential risks and take action to resolve field and operational challenges.
  • Maintain communication and working relationships with customers, field partners, and regulatory agencies.
  • Train, coach, and develop employees while supporting hiring and performance evaluations.
  • Assist with workforce planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Review and maintain accurate payroll, labor-hour, equipment-use, and project records.
  • Monitor the condition and availability of equipment and coordinate repairs, maintenance, or replacement.
  • Assist with customer development and relationship management.
  • Participate in industry events and other activities that support business growth.

Qualifications

  • Leadership experience inrailroad, heavy equipment, construction, emergency response, or related field operations preferred.
  • Experience leading teams in demanding field environments.
  • Strong understanding ofDOT and FRA regulations.
  • Class A or Class B CDL preferred.
  • Experience operating or working around heavy equipment such ascranes, trucks, excavators, and similar machinery.
  • Ability to read and understandcrane load charts and rigging requirements.
  • Strong communication, leadership, coaching, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency withMicrosoft Office and the ability to learn operational software systems.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to complete required safety training and certification programs.

Work Requirements

  • Frequent overnight travel.
  • On-call availability with the ability to report within approximately1 hour when required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working in physically demanding railroad and field environments.
  • Extended hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
  • Active, hands-on position involving walking and working around railroad operations.
  • Ability to lift up to50 lbs.
