Structural Steel Quality Inspector – 1st Shift

Starting Pay: Up to $32/hour, depending on experience

Position Summary

Seeking a Quality Inspector with hands-on structural steel fabrication experience to verify materials, welding, coatings, and finished components meet project specifications and applicable industry standards.

This is primarily ashop-floor position in an active manufacturing environment with limited office work. The facility is non-climate-controlled, so candidates should be comfortable working in varying temperatures and being on their feet throughout the day.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of structural steel components throughout the fabrication process.
• Check welding, materials, and finished work against drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Verify compliance withAWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC, and other applicable standards.
• Inspect incoming materials, parts, and welding consumables.
• Document inspection results and maintain QC records, logs, and related documentation.
• Use and maintain inspection equipment and welding-related quality tools.
• Calibrate welding equipment and quality inspection instruments as required.
• Support welder qualification and certification activities.
• Assist with training involving welding, fitting, and quality requirements.
• Maintain drawing control and other QC processes.
• Work with production and management to identify and correct quality issues.
• Participate in continuous improvement and company training programs.
• Promote safe work practices throughout the fabrication facility.

Required Qualifications

• At least2 years of structural steel fabrication experience.
• Previous experience in quality control, inspection, or manufacturing.
• Working knowledge ofAWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications.
• Experience using inspection tools such as:
  • Fillet weld gauges
  • V-WAC gauges
  • Squares
  • Tape measures
  • Other standard QC inspection equipment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety.

Preferred Qualifications

• CurrentCertified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
• Experience with nondestructive testing methods, including:
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
  • Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Additional certifications in structural steel fabrication, bolting, coatings, or welding inspection.
  • Previous experience in a steel manufacturing or fabrication environment.

Work Environment

• Primarily performed on the production floor.
• Limited office work.
• Non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
• Regular standing, walking, and inspection of steel materials throughout the workday.
