About the Role

We are seeking a Class A CDL Driver/Operator to support emergency train derailment response and rerailing operations. While driving is only about 10% of the role, you will also operate heavy equipment, assist with rerailing and load transfer activities, perform maintenance, and support track-related work.

This is an on-call position requiring availability24/7, including weekends and holidays. The average workweek is approximately60+ hours, with some weeks reaching 70 hours.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment according to company and D.O.T. requirements.
• Drive tractor-trailers to and from job sites and safely transport equipment and materials.
• Inspect loads and verify transportation permits for overweight and oversize equipment.
• Participate in daily safety briefings and work planning.
• Load, unload, move, and stage equipment and materials for rerailing, load transfer, and track work.
• Assist with the assembly, inspection, and operation of cranes and other heavy equipment.
• Assist with rigging and connecting chains, cables, and winches during derailment operations.
• Operate equipment such ascranes, backhoes, grapple trucks, dump trucks, excavators, front-end loaders, bulldozers, rail-bound equipment, tractors, and skid-steer loaders.
• Usehydraulic tools, welding and cutting torches, electrical tools, and common hand tools.
• Perform minor equipment and vehicle maintenance and report more complex mechanical issues.
• Assist with disassembly and loading of cranes and other equipment.
• Restock vehicles and equipment with parts, components, and supplies.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas, vehicles, and equipment.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other physical and operational tasks as needed to support the team.

Requirements

• ValidClass A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) with a good driving record.
• Experience in construction labor or a similar physically demanding role.
• Ability and willingness to operate standard construction equipment.
• Must be able to perform physical labor as required.
• Must pass required qualification, training, and safety programs.
• Must be available24/7 for emergency calls, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Experience

• 3+ years of experience operating heavy equipment, including backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, grapple trucks, rail-bound equipment, tractors, and skid-steer loaders, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Additional Details

• Driving is approximately10% of the job; this is not an over-the-road driving position.
• During downtime, employees may assist in the shop withsafety training and preventive maintenance (PM) on equipment.
• Work may involve responding to train derailments and performing rerailing, load transfer, track maintenance/repair, and related operations.
• Hours worked outside of Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM are paid at the overtime rate (1.5x).
