The Assistant Director of Finance partners closely with the Director of Finance to support the resort’s financial operations, planning, and overall performance. This role supervises and reviews key accounting activities, including account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, credit and collections, and financial control processes, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the resort’s financial operations. The position also supports budgeting, forecasting, compliance, financial analysis, and pre-opening initiatives, including the setup of financial systems, procedures, controls, reporting structures, and departmental readiness activities. Working collaboratively with the Director of Finance and Controller, helps maintain strong financial controls, ensure a timely month-end close, support operational readiness, and drive profitability while upholding the highest standards.

Essential Functions

Pre-Opening Leadership

  • Support finance department startup activities.
  • Assist in recruiting and onboarding finance associates.
  • Develop financial procedures and policy documentation.
  • Coordinate implementation of accounting and finance systems.
  • Establish reporting structures and workflows.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Coordinate annual operating budgets.
  • Assist in preparing rolling forecasts.
  • Analyze financial trends and business performance.
  • Prepare executive-level financial presentations.
  • Support development of long-range business plans.
  • Perform profitability analysis by department and revenue stream.

Business Partnership

  • Act as financial advisor to operational department leaders.
  • Support department heads with labor and expense management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operating margins.
  • Monitor departmental productivity metrics.
  • Develop business cases for operational initiatives.

Strategic Financial Projects

  • Support capital expenditure planning.
  • Participate in ROI and investment analysis.
  • Perform financial modeling for major initiatives.
  • Assist ownership reporting requirements.
  • Support lender and corporate reporting requests.

Financial Systems & Process Improvement

  • Lead process-improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate reporting tools and business intelligence platforms.
  • Improve forecasting methodologies.
  • Enhance financial data visibility across departments.
  • Drive automation opportunities.

Risk Management & Controls Oversight

  • Evaluate financial risks.
  • Recommend control enhancements.
  • Participate in policy development.
  • Support audit readiness initiatives.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Mentor finance managers and supervisors.
  • Assist the Director of Finance in succession planning.
  • Support professional development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Executive & Corporate Support

  • Assist preparation of Board, Ownership and Corporate presentations.
  • Participate in Executive Committee meetings.
  • Support strategic financial decision-making.
  • Represent Finance in cross-functional resort initiatives.

 Minimum Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a finance leadership role in Luxury resort and pre-opening experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting, month-end close processes, financial reporting, accruals, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop, and mentor high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Solid business acumen and a proactive approach to improving financial processes and operational efficiency.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash management, tax compliance, and audit coordination.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and adapt to the evolving needs of a fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Proficiency in Oracle; experience with Birchstreet, Blackline, Sun Systems, , OneStream, Focus, Micros, Opera, and Abhrilsoft is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as business needs require.
