Casual Youth Worker

SUMMARY 

This is a casual part-time position between 10-20 hrs per week. The successful candidate will be working with Newcomer youth to assist them in developing employability skills directly related to event planning. Various workshop must be competed by participant from Event Planning to Media Digital Literacy Training and other relevant skills in the Events sector.

The successful candidate will be assisting the program participants to develop and assist in community engagement projects to help participants develop transferable and marketable employability skills.  Project participants must create five (5) community projects (virtual or in-person), either one that participants will create themselves, or one that participants will create with other organizations or community groups. Each event must aim for 75-100 people in attendance

Successful applicant must be a self-starter and a team player. Successful candidate must also be able to work flexible hours which will include shifts in the evenings and weekends, this allows us to be accessible to our youth participants at their time.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Recruit and register Newcomer youth to participate in Youth2Lead. This will include conducting information sessions, advertising campaigns (virtual/traditional) and extensive outreach (tabling at schools and the community)

• Provide one-on-one support/coaching to participants
• Develop and facilitate workshops, create workshop schedule, book speakers and trainers
• Guide participants in the co-creation of 5 community youth focused projects/events
• Support youth in developing the skills that could help them find future employment
• Support youth in developing skills and resources to help them with their academic planning
• Encourage and motivate participants in attending workshops and planning days
• Collect necessary data and assessments to use for reports
• Develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholder and partners
• Other project activities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• College or University education in business, education, poli-sci or marketing is an asset 
• Community event planning experience both virtual and in person is an asset
• Experience managing volunteers in high-stressed and results-driven projects is an asset
• Must have relevant volunteer or paid experience working with youth, with an understanding of addressing barriers experienced by youth
• Must have direct experience organizing, planning, and facilitating group workshops, activities, and peer mentoring
• Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships, and communicate with community partners, stakeholders, and participants
• Must be comfortable working virtually and able to use the Internet, MS Office Suite, Outlook, Zoom and graphic design software such as Canva
• Able to work evenings and weekends, the program has flexible work hours due to the people we serve
• Must be able to travel between GTA cities carrying supplies for projects – there is a fair amount of travelling
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Past EmpowHER or Youth2Action experience will be an asset

Hourly rate: $25.75
