Ship Suitability Engineer

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking aShip Suitability Engineer (Level 5) to support the Systems Engineering Integration & Test (SEIT) Team inBerkeley, MO.

Located within the BDS Air Dominance Systems Engineering core group in St Louis, Missouri supporting the Ship Suitability functions in the core and across individual programs. 

The candidate will support core efforts in development and maintenance processes and tools and will act as the “user/customer advocate” on naval programs to instill operational quality in Boeing’s products.  The candidate will collaborate with Boeing Integrated Product Teams and the maritime customer, working to inform integration into the shipboard environment including approaches to launch and recovery, deck handling, communication modes with the ship, and shipboard qualification testing. The candidate will support engineering and test efforts on programs at the systems level by analyzing designs, participating in trade studies, designing/developing concepts, and assisting with drafting and executing test plans for air ship integration of weapons systems.  The candidate will also lead and support training efforts to educate Boeing and customer engineers in naval aviation operations, procedures, equipment and environments pertaining to ship suitability.  Training efforts may include, but are not limited to, classroom training at Boeing facilities and leading groups of engineers aboard ships at sea and land-based facilities.

Position Responsibilities

• Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
• Leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
• Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Leads analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
• Leads, develops, maintains and identifies improvements the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; domestically and/or internationally depending on business needs.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
• 9+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
• Thorough knowledge of naval aviation operations, aircraft maintainability and logistics support, and/or aircraft systems knowledge. 
• Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

• Military or civilian experience working on U.S. Navy carriers or aviation-capable ships, preferably related to aircraft integration, deck handling, and/or test.
• Experience in design, integration, and/or test of U.S. Navy carrier-based aircraft.
• Experience with engineering analysis.
• Experience with course development and/or course instruction.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  Summary pay range: $164,900 – $223,100
