What you'll do:

As Senior Credit Risk Manager Financial Institutions Group Credit at MUFG in London, you will be entrusted with broad responsibilities covering strategic planning, risk management oversight, regulatory compliance, people development, and stakeholder engagement. Your day-to-day activities involve supporting the Head of FIG Credit EMEA by implementing robust credit risk strategies tailored to business objectives. You’ll use your delegated authority to approve complex transactions swiftly while maintaining rigorous standards across MUS and MUBK portfolios. You’ll champion structured financing solutions for financial sponsors—such as portfolio financing against private credit loans or equity margin loans—and coordinate enhancements to rating methodologies. Your role extends beyond technical tasks; you’ll foster a positive work environment by motivating your team members through training opportunities and clear communication of expectations. You’ll also represent FIG Credit at senior management levels or before regulators when required. Success in this role means balancing commercial goals with prudent risk management while nurturing collaborative relationships across regions to advance MUFG’s group strategy.

  • You will support the implementation of credit risk strategies for FIG Credit that align with business objectives and are understood by all relevant stakeholders.

  • You will exercise delegated credit authority across MUFG Securities (MUS) and MUFG Bank (MUBK), approving annual reviews and ad-hoc transactions for all products and clients.

  • You will proactively monitor credit risk exposure across portfolios, ensuring risks remain within appetite and breaches are addressed promptly.

  • You will lead the onboarding process for new counterparties and conduct periodic reviews of existing ones, including limit setting and rating assessments.

  • You will review credit risk terms in legal documentation across loan and trading products to ensure compliance with internal policies.

  • You will participate in projects aimed at enhancing credit risk systems or addressing audit/self-identified issues, collaborating internationally with stakeholders from APAC, US, and Japan.

  • You will manage 2-3 direct reports, ensuring their motivation, training needs, succession planning, and performance reviews are up-to-date.

  • You will act as deputy for Head of FIG Credit EMEA during risk committees, regulator interactions, or when coverage is required.

  • You will promote development of internal systems, procedures, controls, and ensure compliance requirements are met by your team.

  • You will maintain strong relationships with regional and global stakeholders to share best practices and support the One MUFG strategy.

Your familiarity with legal documentation ensures thorough review processes that safeguard compliance standards. In addition to technical prowess, you excel at communicating complex ideas clearly—both internally among colleagues and externally with stakeholders—while maintaining accuracy under tight deadlines. Your calm demeanour supports effective performance even during periods of heightened pressure. With academic credentials underpinning your practical experience (bachelor’s degree essential; master’s degree advantageous), you are well-positioned to deliver results that reflect both accountability and empathy.

  • Extensive management experience leading teams in complex environments with responsibility for recruitment, development, performance reviews, grievance handling, and succession planning.

  • Demonstrated ability presenting credit arguments at senior management level as well as interacting confidently with regulators on behalf of the organisation.

  • Deep familiarity with structured financing solutions—including portfolio financing against private credit loans; listed/unlisted equity margin loans; repo/TRS transactions on less liquid assets—and product knowledge covering corporate lending, derivatives, trade finance.

  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory frameworks impacting credit risk management within banking sectors.

  • Strong analytical skills applied to new product adoption processes alongside advanced knowledge of corporate finance principles; capital markets; traded products; credit/market risk measures (including PFE/stress scenarios).

  • Experience reviewing legal documentation from a credit perspective across loan guarantees/traded products (ISDA/CSA/IM/GMRA/GMSLA/CDEA).

  • Proven track record leading complex risk projects including regulatory remediation initiatives.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification essential; Master’s degree or relevant industry accreditation beneficial.

  • Excellent communication skills enabling clear conveyance of credit arguments; outstanding attention to detail; calm approach under pressure; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
