What The Role Is

The ESM Developer I is an entry-level professional application development role responsible for supporting the development, configuration, automation, integration, and continuous improvement of Clearway Energy Group’s Enterprise Service Management (ESM) platform and related technologies. The position primarily supports ServiceNow while developing foundational capabilities in workflow automation, enterprise integrations, data/CMDB, and AI engineering.

Working under the guidance of experienced developers and platform leadership, the ESM Developer I progressively takes ownership of increasingly complex development activities. The role is designed for a technically capable developer who is interested in the intersection of application development, automation, artificial intelligence, and enterprise service management.

What You'll Be Doing

ESM Platform Development

• Configure, develop, test, and maintain ESM platform functionality based on defined requirements.
• Support Incident, Request, Problem, Change, Knowledge, Service Catalog, CMDB, and related capabilities.
• Develop forms, fields, workflows, Flow Designer flows, notifications, reports, dashboards, and other platform components.
• Assist with JavaScript and ServiceNow scripting, including Client Scripts, Business Rules, UI Policies, and Script Includes.
• Support low-code/no-code application development while minimizing unnecessary customization.

Workflow & Automation

• Identify opportunities to automate manual, repetitive, or inefficient processes.
• Develop automated workflows using Flow Designer and other approved automation technologies.
• Assist with approvals, task routing, notifications, fulfillment processes, and system-driven activities.
• Participate in automation proof-of-concept and continuous-improvement initiatives.

AI Engineering & Intelligent Automation

• Support development and implementation of AI-enabled solutions within the ESM environment.
• Assist with evaluating AI use cases such as intelligent routing, summarization, classification, knowledge assistance, virtual agents, and workflow automation.
• Develop and test prompts, AI workflows, and AI-assisted automations under established standards.
• Assist with integrating approved AI services, APIs, and enterprise data sources.
• Evaluate AI outputs for accuracy, consistency, usability, and business value.
• Follow Clearway AI governance, security, privacy, responsible-AI, and human-oversight requirements.
• The Level I role is not expected to independently architect enterprise AI solutions; responsibility grows as technical capability develops.

Integrations

• Assist with integrations between ESM and enterprise applications using REST APIs, JSON, IntegrationHub, web services, and related technologies.
• Troubleshoot data, authentication, connectivity, and integration issues.
• Document integration requirements, configurations, dependencies, and support considerations.

CMDB & Data

• Support CMDB maintenance, data quality, normalization, relationships, and automated population.
• Assist with using enterprise data for reporting, automation, analytics, and AI-enabled solutions.
• Follow data governance, security, and platform standards.

Platform Support & Governance

• Troubleshoot ESM platform issues and support releases, upgrades, testing, and deployments.
• Maintain technical and configuration documentation.
• Follow change management, development, security, testing, and governance standards.
• Participate in code and peer reviews as development skills mature.

Requirements & Collaboration

• Work with business and technology stakeholders to understand problems and translate requirements into practical solutions.
• Collaborate with EUS, ITSM, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, and business teams.
• Communicate status, risks, issues, dependencies, and technical considerations.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and technical experience.
• 1+ years of experience in application development, software development, automation, systems administration, or a related technical discipline.
• Basic understanding of programming and software development concepts.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript or another modern programming/scripting language.
• Basic understanding of databases, data structures, APIs, and application integrations.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new technologies.
• Rapidly develops technical knowledge and applies new concepts to real-world problems.
• Builds proficiency in enterprise application development and follows development standards.
• Recognizes opportunities to use automation and emerging AI technologies to improve processes.
• Uses logical, analytical approaches to investigate issues and develop effective solutions.
• Understands that technology solutions should improve employee productivity and experience.
• Build effective working relationships across IT and business teams.
• Takes ownership of assigned work and proactively communicates risks or obstacles.
• Develop solutions that are reliable, secure, maintainable, and governed.

What Would Be Nice

• Experience with ServiceNow or another enterprise service management platform.
• ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification or progress toward certification.
• Experience with Flow Designer, Service Catalog, CMDB, IntegrationHub, or scripting.
• Experience with JavaScript, REST APIs, JSON, HTML, CSS, or SQL.
• Familiarity with ITIL or IT service management concepts.
• Experience with workflow automation or low-code/no-code development.
• Exposure to generative AI, AI APIs, prompt engineering, AI agents, or AI-enabled applications.
• Experience using AI tools to assist with software development, automation, research, or problem-solving.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Azure, Teams, Intune, or related enterprise technologies

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law. This role is eligible to earn an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.
