Department     NURSING Labor and Delivery

Position Summary   Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to patients and assists

                                 in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the

                                 Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

        Manual Skills  Some (less than 50%) portions of daily assignments involve application of manual skills requiring

                                 motor coordination in combination with finger dexterity.

      Physical Effort  Some (less than 50%) portions of daily assignments involve prolonged standing, transporting

                                patients, material, or equipment, or lifting, moving, or carrying heavy (over 30 lbs.) materials

                                for intermittent periods throughout the day.

                 Physical Some (less than 50%) portions of daily assignments involve exposure to dirt, odors, noise, or

         Environment some work is performed with exposure to temperature/weather extremes.  Working surfaces

                                may be unlevel, slippery, or unstable.

     Work Schedule  Work may require evening, night, holiday, or weekend assignments on occasion.

                                Some (less than 50%) portions of daily assignments involve occupational risk, such as cuts,

           Bloodborne OSHA Category I - Routine / anticipated exposure.  Work involves exposure to blood, body

             Pathogens fluids, or tissue.

               Exposure

                    Safety Job may require the use of safety equipment, such as HEPA mask, for infection prevention.

 Ergonomics Risks  Some portions (less than 50%) of daily assignments involve ergonomic risk.

                    Lifting  Required to lift over 30 pounds.

     Climbing Stairs  Requires the ability to walk up and down stairs on a regular basis.

Position Requirements

                   Formal This position requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma or equivalent.  Minimum of 1 year job-related experience.

          Job-Related Desired (not required) criteria include:  Basic computer skills.

                                Additional languages preferred.

                                Phlebotomy and EKG testing skills

            Cert. Required

             Comments  Completion of OR/Surgical Technician program.  BLS from American Heart Association
