IT Project Controller (Intermediate)

About the Role

This intermediate IT Project Controller role sits within a project-controls team at a leading energy infrastructure organization, supporting budget management, forecasting, commitments, project monitoring, financial analysis, and monthly financial reporting across an assigned IT portfolio. The position was created to backfill capacity after a senior controller moved into the business, so the model is intentional: you own one portfolio while floating as flexible support across the broader team, working closely with senior controllers, Project Managers, and Delivery Managers rather than carrying a large independent portfolio from day one.

The ideal candidate brings roughly five years of project-controls experience, understands IT and infrastructure project environments well enough to hit the ground running (think network upgrades and data-center programs), and has hands-on SAP experience, particularly the Project System module. You are comfortable owning routine controls work independently, can speak concretely about projects you have supported, the scale involved, and the direct impact of your contributions, and you thrive in a collaborative, senior-supported team structure.

Key Responsibilities

1. Manage project-controller responsibilities for an assigned IT portfolio, covering budget management, forecasting, commitments tracking, and project monitoring
2. Prepare and deliver monthly financial reporting and financial analysis for portfolio stakeholders
3. Collaborate daily with senior controllers, Project Managers, and Delivery Managers to keep projects financially on track
4. Float across the broader controls team as flexible support, picking up assignments outside the primary portfolio as needed
5. Process routine requisitions and purchase orders within the project environment
6. Maintain accurate project records and financial data in SAP, with a focus on the Project System module
7. Identify and flag budget variances or commitment risks early, bringing clear context and recommended next steps to senior controllers

Required Skills & Experience

• Approximately 5 years of professional project-controls experience
• Demonstrated responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, commitments, project monitoring, financial analysis, or monthly reporting
• Ability to work independently on routine project-controls tasks while operating within a senior-supported team structure
• Experience engaging directly with project stakeholders, particularly Project Managers or Delivery Managers
• Ability to work in the Alberta hybrid arrangement

Preferred Skills

• Prior experience on IT or IT infrastructure projects, specifically network upgrades, data-center programs, or comparable technology infrastructure work
• Hands-on SAP experience, particularly the SAP PS (Project System) module used for project controls and related administration
• Experience processing requisitions and purchase orders within a project environment
