Program Director

Summary

The Program Director is responsible for the overall management of the INPEACE Kupu Ola Program, this position leads and oversees the Hawaiian culture-based youth programming on the Waianae Coast. This includes teaching cultural practices and approaches in an outdoor garden in collaboration and alignment with HIDOE classroom teachers, to integrate Hawaiian epistemology and practices that make learning relevant for Hawai‘i’s youth. This position will also oversee and guide after-school programming that focuses on building leadership skills through Hawaiian cultural values and approaches. Responsibilities include grant management and reporting, staff training, oversight and evaluation, and direct delivery of participant services. Will convene and seek input from a community advisory committee and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the program. The Program Director will also play the important role of coordinating and nurturing community partnerships and collaborations for enhanced and expanded services.

Duties and Responsibilities

▪Participates in the hiring of program staff.

▪ Provides staff with a thorough orientation of the program.

▪ Oversee management of the culture-based education programs as assigned.

▪ Ensures communication amongst and between managers and staff.

▪ Coordinate the activities and contract of consultants hired for the project.

▪ Train staff and supervise the execution of program services.

▪ Ensure that funds are properly expended and accounted for.

▪ Ensure quality in design and implementation of program evaluation.

▪ Write progress reports and ensure that the reporting and accountability requirementsof the funding agency are promptly met.▪Write final reports to funding agency.

▪ Lead in curriculum development and refinement for all Culture Based Education(CBE) programs.

▪ Establish and maintain relationships with partnership institutions and organizationsinvolved.

• Maintain communication with community leaders and seeks community input aboutthe project’s work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree

Skills and Knowledge

▪Strong knowledge of Hawaiian cultural practices and values, place-based learning, and the ability to effectively communicate and teach those concepts and skills to youth grades 4-12.

▪ Ability to manage projects effectively and efficiently within budget guidelines.

▪ Proven skills with staff management and training.

▪ Ability to communicate effectively with partnering and collaborating agencies/organizations at the state level.

▪ Ability to effectively work with, engage, and motivate youth.

▪Ability to create and maintain partnerships to enhance the project and improve sustainability.

▪ Excellent planning, organization, coordination skills, ability to motivate people.

▪ Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.

▪ Excellent writing and verbal skills required to prepare clear and concise reports and to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences.

▪ Ability to analyze problems, develop effective solutions and resolve problems.

▪ Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external individuals, groups, organizations, and community agencies.

▪ Ability to work independently, detail-oriented, flexible, and ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.

▪ Ability to work under pressure.

• Proficient with programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Knowledge of databases, preferred.
