Job Description

U.S. Bank is seeking the position of Solutions Architect – Money Movement Capability (Wires & Payments Technology) in Charlotte, NC.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Solutions Architect – Money Movement Capability (Wires & Payments Technology) will focus on the design and architecture of large-scale, enterprise-grade payment processing platforms supporting domestic and international wire transfers (e.g., Fedwire, CHIPS, SWIFT) and related ISO 20022 message flows. The duties are centered on modernizing and enhancing payment orchestration, message routing, real-time status APIs, and integration with downstream compliance, settlement, and reporting systems. Additional responsibilities include the following: analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints; modify existing software to correct errors, adapt it to new hardware, or upgrade interfaces and improve performance; assist business teams with appropriate systems software solutions for payment processing workflows; design and define end-to-end application and integration architecture for enterprise wire payment platforms, including payment orchestration, network connectivity, and message routing components supporting ISO 20022 message types (e.g., pacs.008, pacs.009, pacs.002); translate complex business and regulatory requirements for high-value payment processing into technical architecture, system designs, and detailed solution specifications; define interfaces, APIs, data models, and integration patterns between core payment systems, middleware platforms (e.g., messaging and event streaming), and external networks; evaluate and recommend technology solutions, frameworks, and third-party products used within the payment processing ecosystem; ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture and security standards; collaborate with product, operations, compliance, and infrastructure teams to ensure solutions meet resiliency, scalability, security, and regulatory requirements; guide development teams through code-level design decisions, architectural reviews, and implementation patterns for distributed, service-oriented applications; oversee solution implementation and support software testing, validation, and integration activities to ensure alignment with design requirements; prepare and review functional, integration, and system test cases for payment applications in development; resolve technical issues; communicate architecture decisions to stakeholders and leadership; analyze and recommend system enhancements or modifications to improve performance, functionality, and long term maintainability of payment applications; utilize Java for backend application development and utilize J2EE for development of enterprise Java frameworks and application architectures. Position may allow working from home within commuting distance of the worksite location. Multiple Positions.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science plus 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as a Solutions Architect, Technology Analyst, or related. 

Required Skills/Experience:
Must possess 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience with each of the following: gathering and analyzing functional, non-functional, regulatory, and integration requirements for enterprise payment processing systems; assisting business teams with appropriate systems software solutions for payment processing workflows; creating high- and low-level

design artifacts; conducting system and object oriented analysis; participating in design reviews; quality checks to ensure design requirements are met; preparing and reviewing functional, integration, and system test cases for payment applications in development test cases; conducting unit and integration testing; tracking and managing defects; performing root-cause analysis of post-implementation issues; working on solutions for resolution of issue fixes; utilizing Java for backend application development and utilizing J2EE for development of enterprise Java frameworks and application architectures; System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and system integration; Spring; Hibernate; UNIX; Maven; and Junit. Position may allow working from home within commuting distance of the worksite location.
