Work Schedule:This role is expected to align with AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced operational senior accounting professional to join a fast-growing Australian fintech specialising in legal funding solutions.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, this is a hands-on role focused on day-to-day finance operations, with a strong month-end close cycle. You will be responsible for keeping the finance function running smoothly, ensuring transactions are accurately processed, reconciled, and reported, while also supporting ad hoc analysis and finance improvements to a fast-growing fintech company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage month-end close; prepare journals, accruals, prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations, and support the timely and accurate completion of monthly management accounts activities including journals, accruals, and repayments
- Manage accounts payable; including processing invoices, payments, and liaising with stakeholders
- Analysis and process improvement; investigate and resolve discrepancies across transactions and systems
- Actively contribute to enhancing operational efficiencies, by recommending practical improvements to existing finance and operational processes to support the business as it scales rapidly
- Process banking transactions and support cash management
- Perform bank, balance sheet, and control account reconciliations
- Ensure accurate and timely financial records across all systems
- Take ownership of reporting, analysis, and ad hoc requests from the Financial Controller and deliver outcomes with minimal supervision
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting or finance operations roles with strong exposure to AP, reconciliations, banking processes, and month-end close activities.
- Experience in both large corporate organisations and fast-paced or high-growth environments
- Exposure to financial services, banking, lending, or fintech is highly desirable
- Advanced Excel skills (XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS, Pivot Tables)
- Experience with Xero or similar accounting systems is an advantage
