HR SpecialistSalary: $61,859

The City is looking for an HR Specialist to join our team and bring energy, organization, and people-focused service to a variety of human resources functions. This is a hands-on role with plenty of opportunities to connect with candidates, support hiring managers, and make a difference from application to onboarding.
**First Interviews are planned for 10/22 & 10/23**
What You’ll Do
• Recruit & Connect: Represent the City at job fairs and community events, promote career opportunities, and build relationships with prospective applicants.
• Support Hiring: Screen applicants, coordinate interviews, prepare materials, conduct reference checks, and partner with hiring managers throughout the selection process.
• Guide Candidates: Serve as a trusted point of contact, answering questions and keeping candidates informed throughout recruitment, selection, and onboarding.
• Coordinate Screenings: Manage pre- and post-offer requirements such as background checks, drug testing, physicals, and other screenings—including specialized public safety selection steps.
• Keep Things Moving: Process new-hire information and personnel actions, prepare employment documents, maintain HRIS records, and ensure information is accurate and complete.
• Maintain Records: Organize, index, and audit electronic personnel files and maintain reports, databases, and other HR records.
• Support the Team: Assist with employee programs, training, service awards, HR committees, meetings, reports, correspondence, and special projects.
• Pitch In: Handle a variety of administrative and HR tasks, research information, prepare reports and documents, and support departmental needs as they arise.
Physical Requirements:
This position regularly involves talking, listening, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and using hands to handle equipment and materials. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds, as well as stooping, bending, and kneeling, may be required. The position requires close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, along with the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily in a professional office using standard equipment, with regular activities at City facilities and community locations such as Parks and Recreation sites, police and fire stations, schools, universities, libraries, and indoor or outdoor events.
Schedule:
Full-time, Monday–Friday during regular business hours. Evening and weekend work may be required during peak seasonal onboarding periods.

Education
- Associate degree in Human Resources or a related field or- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in high-volume recruitment or human resources- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Preferred:
- Experience vetting resumes, selecting interview questions and conducting panel interviews.
- Ability to communicate effectively with partners within HR and City departments
- Knowledge of employment law
- Basic skills in photo and video editing to create recruitment materials
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Proven organization systems for time management of multiple deadlines and activities
- Experience with Canva, social media, Applicant Tracking Systems, HRIS, electronic filing, electronic onboarding.
