POSITION SUMMARY
The Program Specialist Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination,
implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of programs and services for juveniles housed
within the Hualapai Corrections: juvenile Division. The position ensures programming is
culturally responsive, trauma-informed, evidence-based, and consistent with applicable
Tribal, Federal, Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), and Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)
Standards.
The position supports rehabilitation, education, behavior management, life skills
development, re-entry planning, and positive youth engagement while maintaining a safe
and secure correctional environment. The Program Specialist Coordinator shall coordinate, facilitate, and oversee daily programming and educational services during assigned operational hours to ensure continuity of services, structured activities, and compliance with facility educational requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Specialist Coordinator shall coordinate, facilitate, and oversee daily
programming and educational services during assigned operational hours to ensure
continuity of services, structured activities, and compliance with facility educational
requirements.
The duties may include:
· Coordinating educational instruction and school related programming
· Facilitating rehabilitative and behavioral programming
· Conducting life skills and cultural activities
· Monitoring juvenile participation and progress
· Maintaining required documentation and reports
· Coordinating program schedules with facility operations and security staff
· Educational programming requirements
· Juvenile programming schedules
· Cultural, recreational, and rehabilitative activities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
· Juvenile detention operations and programming
· Trauma-informed care practices
· Adolescent behavior and development
· Behavioral intervention and de-escalation techniques
· Case management and documentation practices
· Educational and rehabilitative programming
· Cultural awareness and Native American Youth Services
· Facility safety, security and emergency procedures
· Computer systems, data entry, and report writing
Skills in:
· Effective verbal and written communication
· Organization and management
· Conflict resolution and problem solving
· Group facilitation and program coordination
· Maintaining professional boundaries
· Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
· Supervising and motivating juveniles in a correctional setting
Ability to:
· Maintain safety and security within the facility
· Work effectivity in stressful or emergency situations
· Build positive and professional relationships with juveniles
· Assess program effectiveness and behavioral progress
· Prepare reports and maintain accurate records
· Follow facility policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements
· Work flexible schedules when necessary
Minimum Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required
· Associate degree is preferred in criminal justice, social work, psychology,
counseling, education, behavioral health, or related fields
· Bachelor’s degree preferred
· Experience working with juveniles in corrections, education, behavioral health,
· social services, counseling, or related field preferred
· Experience coordinating or facilitating programs preferred
· Valid driver's license required and must be insurable under tribal insurance
Must successfully pass:
· Criminal background investigation
· Drug alcohol screening
· Must be able to work within a secure juvenile detention environment
