Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Governance
Develop, implement, and sustain a global EHS strategy, policies, and standards aligned with business priorities and regulatory requirements.
Establish governance mechanisms to ensure consistent EHS expectations, accountability, and execution across all sites.
Risk Management & Operational Excellence
Lead enterprise and site-level risk assessments, EHS audits, and management system reviews; prioritize corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk.
Implement sustainable controls for key hazards relevant to the business, including high-risk operations such as metal powder/process safety.
Use EHS data, analytics, and leading indicators to identify trends, predict risk, and prioritize resources — moving the organization from reactive to predictive safety management.
Culture, Leadership & Capability Building
Drive a proactive, no-blame EHS culture through visible leadership, engagement routines, and reinforcement of safe behaviors at all levels — one where employees feel psychologically safe raising concerns, reporting near-misses, and stopping unsafe work.
Coach, develop, and enable site EHS leaders and coordinators; ensure consistent application of standards and effective local ownership.
Design and deploy effective EHS training programs to build competence, awareness, and compliance, leveraging digital and e-learning tools where they improve reach and retention.
Support employee wellbeing initiatives that address physical and mental health, recognizing wellbeing as integral to a sustainable safety culture.
Performance Management & Reporting
Define, monitor, and communicate EHS performance metrics, including metrics tied to sustainability and ESG commitments; analyze trends and translate insights into targeted improvement actions.
Provide clear reporting for leadership reviews, including progress versus goals, systemic risks, and improvement roadmap status.
Incident Management & Learning
Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses; ensure timely, transparent closure and verification of corrective actions.
Drive organizational learning by sharing insights, improving leading indicators, and focusing on prevention-oriented actions.
Cross-Functional Partnership & External Awareness
Partner with Production, Engineering, Service, HR, and Legal to embed EHS and ergonomics considerations into core business processes, change management, facility planning, and investment decisions.
Maintain awareness of regulatory changes, emerging risks (including those tied to new materials, automation, and additive manufacturing processes), and industry best practices, keeping the business compliant and proactive.
Build and maintain an active network with EHS colleagues across GE Aerospace and the broader industry to share best practices and accelerate adoption of proven approaches.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited institution, or equivalent qualification. Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience: Multiple years of progressive EHS leadership experience, ideally in a global and/or multi-site manufacturing environment and/or field services organization.
- Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of current EHS regulations, standards, and industry best practices, along with the judgment to apply them pragmatically.
- Language: Business fluency in English required; German and/or French is a plus given the site footprint.
- Travel: Ability and willingness to travel approximately 30%, with flexibility for more during peak project periods.
Preferred Qualifications / Desired Characteristics
- Certifications: CSP, CIH, NEBOSH, or equivalent professional EHS certification strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success building and scaling EHS programs across complex operations and driving measurable improvement in safety outcomes.
- Domain expertise in high-hazard operations, including additive manufacturing environments, metal powder hazards, and process safety management.
- Comfort using EHS data platforms, dashboards, and digital tools to drive decisions and reporting.
- Strong influencing, communication, and stakeholder management skills across all organizational levels, from the shop floor to senior leadership.
- Analytical, structured problem-solving ability, with a track record of translating data into prioritized, actionable improvement plans.
