Salary Range:Â Â Â Â $105,000 - $115,000/yr
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:The Underwriting Team Lead will work with our Retail and Wholesale team to ensure mortgage loan applications meet program/product specification. Oversight includes a team of 10+ Underwriter, including Junior and Senior positions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversight of Underwriting pipeline
- Analysis of submitted files for repayment capacity, capital, character, collateral, and property condition while adhering to Home Xpress credit policies
- Communicate decisions to appropriate individuals
- Communicate changes in deadlines, schedules, etc. to all required parties
- Lead all aspects of team development, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training of underwriting staff
- Conduct candidate interviews to assess technical expertise, decision-making ability, and cultural alignment
- Develop and deliver training programs, job aids, and reference materials to reinforce underwriting guidelines and best practices
- Provide ongoing coaching, performance management, and skill development to drive accountability and results
- Ensure alignment between training, credit policy, quality control findings, and compliance requirements
- Identify and address skill gaps through targeted development plans and calibration sessions
- Drive continuous improvement through training, process optimization, and adoption of technology and automation initiatives

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- 10+ years of experience in mortgage underwriting
- Computer proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, and various LOS
- Demonstrate strong history of good time management skills, decision making ability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate issues between several audiences proficiently
- Achieves and exceeds work goals for productivity, quality, and turnaround time by prioritizing workflow and managing pipeline
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is in an office setting with computer and general office equipment. The position requires the ability to move freely around within the department and other department locations.
