The Opportunity
As a manager and experienced Application Engineer for Power Conversion, Power Quality Industry and Grid Connection you will join a global team shaping the future of reliable, stable, and high‑quality power systems. You will work closely with customers and consultants to understand their challenges, guide them early in the process, and design solutions that help them reach their goals. As a dynamic manager, you have a strong drive in combination with customer focus, ability to gather information and convey technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, business, and related industry.
You will have the opportunity to become a trusted technical partner—someone who listens deeply, sees the full picture, and translates complex needs into optimized, cost‑effective solutions. In this role, you will influence both the technology direction and the customer journey, while supporting growth in key segments and individuals aligned with our Grid & Power Quality Solutions and Service (GPQSS) strategy.
You will collaborate daily with colleagues across departments as you drive business development and pre‑tender engagement, shape technical strategies, and help customers navigate the future of grid and power quality solutions. This is a role where your expertise matters, your voice is heard, and your impact is felt across projects and markets. Experience from Power Conversion, Power Quality Industry or Grid Connection applications is required for the position, and you will have operational focus driving some of the business pursuits as Application Engineer. Part of the role will also be to build up competence to support market growth for Grid and Power Quality Solutions within the Application Engineering team. You will be part of management team in Application Engineering.
This position is based in Västerås/Solna, Sweden, Mannheim, Germany or Turgi, Switzerland.
How you’ll make an impact
- Lead and mentor a team of 4 GPG Application Engineers, and 14 additional HBU and GCoC Application Engineers spread across the world that will report to you functionally.
- Coordinate and plan business development and pre‑tender activities for Application Engineering Power Conversion, Power Quality Industry and Grid Connection team to optimize technology solution positioning Hitachi.
- Engage early with customers to understand needs and explore opportunities.
- Shape optimized, cost‑effective solutions across our Power Conversion, Power Quality Industry and Grid Connection portfolio.
- Represent Application Engineering in cross‑functional teams to ensure integration and stakeholder alignment.
- Build long‑term stakeholder relationships that support market growth
- Guide teams and coordinate complex technical inputs across the business development and sales cycle.
- Manage risks, issues, and changes, ensuring clear communication and mitigation strategies.
- Drive strategy, innovation and improve project processes, tools, and methodologies across the virtual Application Engineering community.
- Promote awareness of full GPQSS offerings and new technical solutions.
- Ensure all solutions follow process, safety and quality standards
Your background
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or similar
- Strong experience in application engineering, business development or lead engineering within the industry for Power Conversion, Power Quality Industry and Grid Connection solutions. Experience from HVDC Offshore Wind is a plus.
- Experienced in guiding teams, coordinating complex projects, and fostering a high-performance culture.
- Good understanding of grid codes, their role in power system infrastructure and impact of GPQSS portfolio in transformation for compliance for the stability, reliability, and quality of power grids.
- Technical expertise in Grid and Power Quality Solutions and related engineering tools (PSSE, PSCAD, RTDS, MATLAB, etc.)
- Proven experience engaging customers and developing long‑term partnerships
- Excellent communicator who thrives in diverse, cross‑cultural environments, and strong ability to see both the technical and commercial picture
- Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus
- Willingness to travel internationally (up to 20%)
