Site Reliability Engineer (New Zealand – Remote)
Full-time Contract | NZD 8,000–10,000/month | 6 months initial term
Please note:
This is not an hourly-rate or daily-rate contract.
This is a full-time commitment for the contract duration.

About the role
We’re looking for amid-level Site Reliability Engineer (5+ years experience) based in New Zealand to join the platform team of one of our established Australian technology clients. This is a hands-on infrastructure role within a fast-moving team undergoing a significant transition to cloud-native tooling, and they need an additional strong contributor to help carry that work through.
This is afull-time, long-term contract engagement retained on amonthly basis — not an hourly or daily contract arrangement. The initial term is six months, with strong potential for extension.
You’ll be joining an experienced internal team, stepping into active migration work from day one and helping increase capacity through a busy period of infrastructure uplift.
The key focus will be migrating a self-managed Kubernetes cluster to Amazon EKS, alongside moving self-hosted Kafka to Amazon MSK. The team works Australian business hours, making this a natural fit for candidates in New Zealand.
What you’ll be doing
Helping migrate a self-managed Kubernetes cluster onto Amazon EKS, including persistent storage and stateful workloads.
Managing and improving AWS infrastructure maintained through Terraform.
Supporting the migration of self-hosted Kafka onto Amazon MSK with minimal disruption.
Maintaining platform stability, observability, and security throughout the migration process.
Working closely with a senior internal team, picking up ownership of active workstreams quickly.
Identifying risks early and maintaining clear documentation.
What good looks like
The right person has strong infrastructure depth and has worked through Kubernetes migrations before.
5+ years of hands-on Site Reliability, Platform Engineering, or DevOps experience.
Strong hands-on experience with Amazon EKS.
Strong AWS experience, with Terraform as a core infrastructure tool.
Experience migrating legacy or self-managed infrastructure into cloud-native managed services.
Solid Kafka knowledge, ideally including Amazon MSK migrations.
Strong understanding of Kubernetes networking, persistent storage (EFS), scaling, and upgrades.
Mature, low-ego, collaborative working style.
Strong communication skills and ability to explain trade-offs clearly.
Working with us
