Journeyman Equipment Operator – Boardman Container Yard

THE JOB

Tidewater Terminal Company is looking for a Journeyman Equipment Operator to join our team in Boardman, OR! In this role, you’ll safely operate Boardman Container Terminal Yard equipment, assist with equipment maintenance and repairs, and support the overall readiness of company assets. This position also serves as a member of Tidewater’s Spill Response Team.

What to expect in this role:

• Safely operate heavy equipment, including lattice and gantry cranes, forklifts, packers, water trucks, bulldozers, front-end loaders, and conveyor systems.

•  Work with employees, customers, contractors, vendors, and suppliers to load, unload, store, and transfer solid waste containers, bulk materials, and customer equipment between barges, trailers, and the terminal yard.

• Perform assigned preventive maintenance and equipment repairs at the Boardman Container Terminal Yard.

• Follow all company safety and environmental procedures, making safety and environmental protection the highest priority.

• Support additional projects and operational needs as directed by the Maintenance Manager.

• Represent the company professionally when working with employees, customers, vendors, and other business partners.

THE PAY & BENEFITS

• Hiring Wage Range: $34.96/hourly or $46.40/hourly (depending on experience)

  • This is a union position. Under the collective bargaining agreement, $34.96/hourly increases to $46.40/hourly after one year of employment.

THE CATCH

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

• Previous experience performing similar responsibilities in a container yard environment is preferred.

• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform equipment maintenance and repairs, including working knowledge of terminal heavy equipment and the ability to follow applicable Tidewater and manufacturer procedures.

• Ability to work any schedule as required and travel to other job sites as needed, including Pasco, Umatilla, Vancouver, and Wilma.

• Comfort working within a small team, with strong communication and collaboration skills to maintain effective working relationships, resolve problems, influence change, and interact with employees at all levels of the organization.

• Ability to learn and become qualified in emergency response and spill procedures.

• Ability to wear all personal protective equipment required for the assigned location, including safety footwear, safety eyewear, gloves, hearing protection, fall protection, head protection, and personal flotation devices.

• Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) from the Department of Homeland Security.

• Current, valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record to operate company-owned vehicles.

• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen, physical exam, criminal background and MVR check.
