PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Salary to be commensurate with experience
The hiring range for this position is$24.35 - $30.43 per hour.

This is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act
Overview of Department / Position:
Aurora Water is responsible for enhancing and protecting the quality of life for Aurora citizens by providing quality water, sewer, and stormwater services in a manner that balances social, environmental, and economic needs.
TheWater Conservation Program Specialistpromotes Aurora Water conservation initiatives and educates customers in water conservation methods through customer interactions created by enforcing watering restrictions set by the Aurora Water Management Plan.Â
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Advocates water conservation by educating customers through outreach efforts  Â
- Makes contact with customers, homeowners associations, and contractors regarding water use issues  Â
- Seeks compliance with City of Aurora codes relating to waste of water  Â
- Maintains patrols of the city looking for violations and responding to complaints that have been received about water waste  Â
- Engages customers utilizing AMI data to correct high-use and leaks Â
- Enforces watering restrictions set by the Water Management Plan of the Water Department  Â
- Maintains records and prepares reports on customer interactions  Â
- May perform residential irrigation and soil inspections  Â
- Performs other duties as assigned Â

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.Â
Education: Â Â
- High school diploma or GED Â
Experience: Â Â
- Two (2) years of experience in customer service, public contact, field services, utilities, or a related area involving interaction with the publicÂ
Preferred Experience: Â
- Experience in conflict resolution and navigating difficult conversationsÂ
- General knowledge of irrigation systems, irrigation repair, and practices associated with water conservationÂ
- Bilingual preferred but not requiredÂ
Knowledge:Â
- Basic knowledge of customer service practicesÂ
- Basic knowledge of water conservation principlesÂ
- General understanding of irrigation systems or outdoor water useÂ
- Basic knowledge of recordkeeping practicesÂ
Skills: Â Â
- Skill in communicating technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiencesÂ
- Skill in conflict resolution and de-escalation during enforcement or compliance discussionsÂ
- Skill in documenting interactions and maintaining accurate recordsÂ
- Skill in using basic computer programs and mobile devicesÂ
- Skill in resolving routine customer concernsÂ

- Ability to analyze water usage trends and identify potential leaks or wasteÂ
- Ability to maintain records and logs, and perform activities common to assigned job functions  Â

Licenses and/or Certificates:Â
- Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and be able to operate a city vehicle, or otherwise demonstrate ability to meet the transportation requirements of the positionÂ
WORKING CONDITIONS Â
Essential Personnel: Â
- When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.Â
Physical Demands:Â
- Moderate physical work that involves moving no more than 50 pounds at a time with or without assistanceÂ
- Frequently performs activities requiring a full range of body movement including bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing  Â
- Hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of equipment and vehicles  Â
- Vision for reading gauges and written instructions  Â
- Hearing/listening for instructions and warning signals  Â
- Speech communication to communicate with employees and citizens  Â
Work Environment:Â
- Works primarily outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions, noise, dust, and fumes  Â
- Long periods of driving time (up to 8 hours per day) throughout the city  Â
- A small amount of work time will be indoors performing administrative tasks  Â
Equipment Used:Â
- Desktop, tablet, radio, cell phone; equipment and vehicles common to utilities maintenance functions Â
- Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, and ExcelÂ
- This position may require the use of personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, etc.) in the course of employmentÂ
The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
