Job Description

What is the opportunity?

Royal Bank of Canada is seeking an experienced Director-level professional to serve as Product Owner for FX and Money Markets Operations. This strategic role leverages significant domain knowledge of FX markets, trading workflows, and post-trade processes to shape RBC's operations in this key business line. You will oversee the development and management of our client-facing FX platform, translate operational needs into technical solutions, and ensure regulatory and operational compliance. This position drives operational efficiency, automation, and settlement risk mitigation while collaborating with front-office stakeholders to ensure operational readiness for ongoing industry transformation and evolving regulatory environments. This is an exceptional opportunity to make a lasting impact on one of RBC's most critical business functions.

What will you do?

  • Drive a modern FX and Money Markets global operations platform and manage the product backlog; collaborate across teams to implement features supporting trade lifecycle, risk mitigation, and compliance
  • Develop and implement efficient processes aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements; design solutions optimizing FX and Money Markets processing across multiple venues and asset types
  • Establish and track key performance indicators and service level agreements for settlement volumes, cycle times, exception rates, and operational efficiency gains; conduct regular process reviews and root cause analysis of settlement failures
  • Assess emerging technologies (AI, blockchain, real-time settlement capabilities) for potential adoption and support platform enhancements, system migration, and regulatory audits
  • Collaborate with internal departments (front-office, middle-office risk, compliance) to streamline FX and Money Markets processes; serve as escalation point for complex problems and client inquiries
  • Build and manage relationships with external infrastructure providers (CLS Net, DTCC, counterparties); deliver monthly and ad-hoc reporting on settlement metrics, operational risks, and regulatory compliance
  • Stay updated on industry regulations and regulatory developments across all jurisdictions; ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements related to settlements; manage regulatory examinations and audits
  • Serve as subject matter expert on FX and Money Markets operations processes; advise front-office, risk, compliance, and technology teams; lead strategic projects such as FX Modernization readiness and settlement infrastructure upgrades.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Minimum 10–15 years of progressive experience in capital markets operations, with substantive exposure to FX and Money Markets operations
  • Proven track record leading operational transformation initiatives, including process redesign and change management
  • Strong understanding of trade settlement, clearing mechanics, payments, regulatory frameworks (including post-trade regulatory regimes), and operational risk management across multiple jurisdictions
  • Demonstrated experience navigating technology transitions and managing operational readiness for significant market infrastructure changes
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills with ability to collaborate effectively across large, diverse, matrixed teams; proven ability to translate complex operational matters for senior leadership and regulators.

Nice-to-have:

  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • FINRA Series 99 certification
  • Prior experience in operational governance roles and exposure to regulatory examinations with demonstrated ability to manage remediation initiatives
  • Experience with operational resilience testing, business continuity planning in settlement environments, or leading strategy on major market infrastructure transitions
  • Familiarity with workflow automation, exception management systems, and emerging technologies in back-office operations

  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team.
