Position Overview
ESS is looking for anE&S Specialist to join our team in Gabon and support environmental and social assignments within the mining sector.
The ideal candidate will have a strongenvironmental background, practical experience withEnvironmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), and the ability to work both in the field and on technical reporting. This role is suited to an E&S professional who is comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams and is willing to undertake field assignments when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and implementation ofEnvironmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) and related E&S studies.
- Participate in fieldwork, including environmental and social baseline data collection, site inspections and stakeholder consultations.
- Conduct environmental and social assessments and contribute to the identification of potential impacts and risks.
- Support the development of mitigation measures and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs).
- Contribute to environmental and social monitoring activities and compliance assessments.
- Prepare clear, accurate and well-structured technical reports, field notes and other E&S deliverables.
- Review and analyse environmental and social data collected during field assignments.
- Support stakeholder engagement activities and document findings where required.
- Work closely with senior E&S professionals, technical specialists and project teams.
- Ensure E&S deliverables are completed to a high professional standard and within agreed timelines.
- Contribute to other E&S assignments undertaken by ESS as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree inEnvironmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Natural Sciences, or a related environmental discipline.
- 3–6 years of relevant professional experience in environmental and social consulting, mining, infrastructure, energy or related sectors.
- Demonstrated experience contributing toESIA projects.
- Strong environmental assessment and fieldwork capabilities.
- Good technicalreport writing skills and the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Willingness and ability to undertakefieldwork, including potentially in remote or challenging locations.
- Knowledge of environmental and social standards and good international industry practice is an advantage.
- Experience in the mining sector is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Fluency inFrench is required; working knowledge of English is an advantage.

We are looking for a practical and motivated E&S professional who combinesstrong environmental knowledge with hands-on field experience. The successful candidate should be comfortable moving between field assignments, technical analysis and report writing, and should demonstrate a genuine interest in environmental and social sustainability within the mining sector.
Location
Libreville, Gabon, with travel and field assignments as required.
