Role Overview
ESS is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental & Social (E&S) Intern to support our teams in the relevant countries. The intern will assist the Environmental & Social team in implementing and monitoring sustainability initiatives, ensuring compliance with both local regulations and international standards (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles).
This is a valuable opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in environmental and social management in the natural resources and infrastructure sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Support environmental and social baseline data collection and reporting.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP).
- Contribute to stakeholder engagement activities, including preparation of meeting notes and follow-up actions.
- Support grievance mechanism tracking and resolution documentation.
- Assist in the organization and documentation of Environmental, Social, Health & Safety (ESHS) training.
- Participate in environmental monitoring (water, waste, biodiversity) under supervision.
- Contribute to drafting progress reports, presentations, and knowledge-sharing materials.
- Provide administrative and logistical support to the E&S team on site.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelorâs degree (or final year student) in Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Sustainability, or a related field.
- Strong interest in environmental and social sustainability, with some academic or internship experience preferred.
- Good communication and writing skills in French; proficiency in English is an advantage.
- Knowledge of local Gabonese context and languages is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work in multicultural teams.
- Willingness to be based in project areas, including rural settings.
