We are looking for a Coastal Hull Underwriter to join our Nordic Marine team. In this role, you will work with one of the leading marine insurance portfolios in the Nordic market, partnering with customers, brokers, and colleagues to deliver sustainable and profitable insurance solutions.
About the role
As a Coastal Hull Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting and developing a portfolio of coastal hull business for commercial customers. You will balance customer needs, risk appetite, and profitability through sound underwriting judgement, risk analysis, and effective pricing.
You will work closely with brokers, customers, sales teams across Norway, and underwriting colleagues throughout the Nordic region. The role offers a unique opportunity to influence portfolio performance while contributing to business development, customer relationships, and loss prevention initiatives.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Assessing and underwriting coastal hull risks for commercial customers
- Evaluating risk exposures at both customer and portfolio level
- Determining pricing based on risk assessments and expected loss outcomes
- Negotiating terms and solutions with customers and brokers
- Supporting sales and service teams in the continued development of coastal hull business
- Contributing to portfolio profitability and performance management
- Supporting loss prevention and risk improvement activities
- Collaborating closely with Marine and Commercial colleagues across the Nordic region

About the team
You will join a team of seven experienced Coastal Hull Underwriters located across the Nordic region, including three colleagues based in Norway. Together, the team combines deep technical expertise with a strong commitment to collaboration and customer service.

Who are you?
You combine strong commercial awareness with technical marine insurance expertise. You enjoy analysing complex information, assessing risk, and making well-founded decisions that contribute to profitable business outcomes.
You are a relationship builder who communicates confidently with customers, brokers, and colleagues. You are able to explain risk assessments, pricing decisions, and underwriting considerations in a clear and professional manner.

You also have:
- Relevant education and/or equivalent experience within the maritime industry
- Experience and sound understanding of coastal hull insurance business
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess complex risk information
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Fluent Norwegian and English language skills, both written and spoken
- Experience working with brokers and commercial shipping customers (advantage)
- Knowledge of other Nordic languages (advantage)
- Exposure to portfolio management and loss prevention initiatives (advantage)

Travelling: Occasional travel within Norway and approximately two Nordic trips per year.
