The AOI Engineer is responsible for developing, optimising, maintaining, and improving Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems used in manufacturing processes. This role ensures effective defect detection, minimises false calls, improves inspection accuracy, and supports continuous quality improvement initiatives. The engineer collaborates closely with Process, Quality, Manufacturing, Equipment, and Product Engineering teams to achieve yield, quality, and productivity targets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Develop, optimise, and maintain AOI inspection programs for new and existing products.
• Create and validate AOI recipes, defect libraries, and inspection standards.
• Fine-tune vision algorithms, lighting, and camera settings to maximise defect detection and minimise false calls.
• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and ensure AOI readiness for production ramp-up.
• Troubleshoot AOI-related production, yield, and quality issues.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Analyse defect trends and drive yield, quality, and process improvement initiatives.
• Support preventive maintenance, calibration, and equipment upgrades.
• Develop automated defect classification (ADC) and smart inspection solutions.
• Evaluate and implement AI, Machine Learning, and advanced vision technologies.
• Integrate AOI systems with MES, SPC, and Industry 4.0 manufacturing platforms.
• Generate and analyse AOI performance reports, dashboards, and KPIs.
• Collaborate with Process, Quality, Product, Manufacturing, and Equipment Engineering teams.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, OCAPs, inspection criteria, and engineering specifications.
• Drive continuous improvement, cost reduction, and automation projects.
• Provide technical training, mentorship, and knowledge sharing on AOI systems.
• Work with equipment vendors on machine optimisation, troubleshooting, and new capability development.
• Lead innovation projects to enhance inspection accuracy, efficiency, and manufacturing performance.
• Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and customer requirements.

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related Engineering disciplines.
• Master's Degree is an added advantage.
• Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt certification is preferred.

Preferred:

• 2 to 5 years of experience in AOI, Machine Vision, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, or Quality Engineering (Engineer level).
• 5+ years of relevant experience in AOI development and manufacturing support (Senior Engineer level).
• Experience in Semiconductor, IC Packaging, SSD, NAND Flash, Electronics Assembly, SMT, or High-Volume Manufacturing environments.
• Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI), process qualification, and production ramp activities.
• Proven track record in yield improvement, defect reduction, and process optimisation projects.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and continuous improvement initiatives is preferred.

Knowledges:

• Auto Optical Inspection (AOI) systems and machine vision technology.
• Image processing, pattern recognition, and defect classification techniques.
• AOI recipe development, optimisation, and validation.
• Optical systems, cameras, lenses, lighting, and inspection methodologies.
• Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), FMEA, MSA, and Root Cause Analysis.
• Quality management systems and manufacturing process control.
• Semiconductor assembly, SMT, or electronic manufacturing processes.
• Automated Defect Classification (ADC) systems.
• AI/Machine Learning applications in inspection and manufacturing.
• Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Industry 4.0, and factory automation concepts.
• Data analysis and visualisation tools such as Minitab, JMP, Python, SQL, Power BI, or Tableau.
• Understanding of SOPs, OCAPs, process documentation, and engineering change management.

• Mandarin language proficiency is an added advantage for collaboration with sister plants in Shanghai.
