Reporting to the Architecture and Data Strategy Tribe Lead, the Enterprise and Business Architecture Practice Lead is a predominantly customer-facing role. Approximately 90% of the role will focus on leading and delivering customer projects across Enterprise Architecture, Business Architecture and Business Analysis.
The role translates business strategy, operating-model needs and customer requirements into clear architectures, capability models, value streams, requirements, roadmaps, governance arrangements and transition plans. The role works with Solution, Data and Technical Architecture colleagues where broader multidisciplinary input is required.
Approximately 10% of the role will be allocated to delegated line management and proportionate professional-practice support for a small, agreed group of Enterprise Architects, Business Architects and Business Analysts. This will focus on scheduled one-to-ones, formal objectives and reviews, coaching and development, essential people support, evidence-based feedback and limited knowledge sharing.
The role operates within the strategy, workforce plans, standards and priorities established by the Architecture and Data Strategy Tribe Lead. Wider capability ownership remains with the Tribe Lead.
Measures of Success
- Quality, timeliness and customer outcomes of assigned project delivery.
- Effective leadership of customer engagements and production of clear, usable architecture and analysis outputs.
- Timely completion of essential line-management activities and effective support through regular feedback, development discussions and coaching for assigned team members.
- Prompt escalation of material people, capacity, skills or delivery risks.
- Proportionate contribution to knowledge sharing, reusable artefacts and selected pre-sales activity.
Not directly accountable for:overall tribe engagement, workforce planning, capability growth, architecture-wide standards, recruitment strategy or the total commercial pipeline.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Customer and Project Delivery - approximately 90%
- Lead and contribute directly to enterprise architecture, business architecture and business analysis engagements.
- Orchestrate delivery to meet defined customer strategies, visions, outcomes and business goals.
- Translate business strategy and operating-model needs into target architectures, capability models, value streams, roadmaps, blueprints and transition plans.
- Lead business architecture activities, including business capability modelling, value-stream analysis, operating-model design and organisational impact assessment.
- Lead and contribute to business analysis activities, including stakeholder analysis, requirements definition, process analysis, traceability and acceptance criteria.
- Ensure alignment between Enterprise Architecture, Business Architecture and Business Analysis outputs.
- Establish proportionate governance and operating structures to manage architectural, business and delivery risk.
- Develop prioritised roadmaps and backlogs for transformation and modernisation, coordinating with customer stakeholders and delivery colleagues.
- Identify, communicate and manage architectural risks, dependencies, assumptions and trade-offs.
- Provide assurance, constructive challenge and decision support to customers and delivery teams.
- Coordinate with Solution, Data and Technical Architecture colleagues where broader multidisciplinary input is required.
- Contribute practitioner expertise to selected pre-sales activities, including opportunity shaping and estimating, where compatible with customer-delivery commitments.
Delegated Line Management - within the 10% allocation
- Provide direct line management for a small, agreed group of Enterprise Architects, Business Architects and Business Analysts, limited to a level that can be managed effectively within the leadership allocation.
- Hold scheduled one-to-one meetings covering delivery, workload, wellbeing, objectives and professional development.
- Complete formal objective-setting, performance and development reviews in accordance with Envitia processes.
- Provide timely, balanced and evidence-based feedback.
- Identify individual development needs and recommend proportionate support or opportunities and provide coaching, mentoring and development opportunities to support professional growth and career progression if appropriate .
- Maintain essential people-management records and appropriate confidentiality.
- Address straightforward people matters within delegated authority and promptly escalate material performance, conduct, wellbeing, workplace or capacity concerns to the Architecture and Data Strategy Tribe Lead and People & Culture Business Partner.
Professional-Practice Contribution - within the 10% allocation
- Share relevant lessons, methods and reusable artefacts arising from customer delivery.
- Facilitate periodic knowledge sharing across Enterprise Architecture, Business Architecture and Business Analysis where project commitments permit.
- Provide practitioner input into methods and standards owned by the Architecture and Data Strategy Tribe Lead.
- Support proportionate peer review or quality assurance on priority engagements when requested.
- Raise recurring delivery-quality, skills or practice issues with the Architecture and Data Strategy Tribe Lead.
- Coordinate with other professional leads where required for a customer engagement.
Limited Resourcing, Recruitment and Commercial Support
- Escalate known availability, capacity or skills risks affecting assigned team members or customer delivery.
- Support interviews, technical assessments or probation reviews when specifically requested and compatible with project commitments. This includes supporting the onboarding, induction and successful integration of new team members into the practice.
- Identify relevant follow-on opportunities arising through customer delivery.
- Provide practitioner input to selected proposals, estimates, presentations or case studies where compatible with project commitments.
Active Team Membership and Professional Development
- Keep up to date with market, professional and technological developments relevant to Envitia customers.
- Continue to develop understanding of Envitia products, services and value propositions.
- Participate in required training, team meetings and company activities, subject to customer-delivery commitments.
- Follow Envitia policies, customer obligations, security requirements and confidentiality expectations.
- Demonstrate Envitia values and expected consulting behaviours.

- Strong understanding of the complexity and challenges faced by Envitia customers.
- Experience of secure and regulated environments, particularly Defence and Government.
Enterprise and Business Architecture
- Strong experience translating strategy into target architectures, operating models, capability models, value streams, roadmaps and transition plans.
- Experience establishing proportionate architecture governance, assurance and decision-making arrangements.
- Knowledge of relevant architecture frameworks and notations, such as TOGAF, ArchiMate, Zachman or BIZBOK; relevant certification is desirable.
- Ability to connect Enterprise and Business Architecture with Solution, Data and Technical Architecture without assuming ownership of those disciplines.
Business Analysis
- Good understanding of Business Analysis practices and their contribution to architecture and delivery.
- Experience of stakeholder analysis, requirements elicitation and definition, process analysis, traceability and acceptance criteria.
- Ability to ensure that business requirements and architecture decisions remain aligned throughout delivery.

- Proven ability to lead complex customer engagements and deliver clear, outcome-focused artefacts.
- Ability to explain architectural choices and trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.
