About the Department

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a 32 ICU bed unit specializing in high-risk interventional cardiology procedures, cardiac surgery, advanced heart failure and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Part of The Edith and Benson Ford Heart and Vascular Institute, one of the nation’s largest and most successful heart failure and transplant programs, the unit provides complex care to high acuity patients from across the country. This fast-paced CVICU provides numerous opportunities for growth and collaboration between NAs and nurses. Our physicians have developed and successfully completed several first-in-man procedures performed with the most advanced technologies available.

Role Overview

As a Nurse Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and comfort of our patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). Your contributions will directly support the RN in delivering exceptional patient care, responding to emergent situations, and fostering a compassionate healthcare environment.

What You Will Do

• Perform specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs.
• Provide input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
• Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures.
• Participate in continuing education to enhance your skills and knowledge.

What You Will Need

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (e.g., Patient Care Technician or Patient Assistant Technician) OR currently enrolled in a nursing program with successful completion of Fundamentals of Nursing OR foreign trained and licensed RN without a Michigan RN license OR Medical Assistant program with or without experience OR at least one year of previous experience in a similar role.
• Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

• CNA certification preferred.
