Summary

Perform duties in wastewater treatment operations including but not limited to process operation and analysis, equipment maintenance, process sampling and analysis, and various cleaning duties. Work is performed in a team environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate wastewater treatmentplantequipment and processes to continually monitor plant-wide operations
  • Take equipment and process readings at various locations throughout the plant
  • Loadand unload chemicals, polymers, and other materials manually or usingmotorizedequipment
  • Collectand perform tests on wastewater and sludge samples
  • Maintainandtroubleshoot wastewatertreatment equipment
  • Maintain various records and prepare reports
  • Complete various cleaning assignments throughout the facility as needed with standard equipment
  • Perform shiftwork which includesdaytime,afternoon, night, weekend, and holiday assignments
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Follow security and safety policies and procedures in carrying outworkduties
  • Provideon the job training
  • Regularlyinspectthe working condition and maintain the cleanlinessofequipment andsurrounding areas
  • Clean light fixtures and replace lampsandbulbs
  • Communicate problems to teamleadersor members
  • Assist with clearing snow in emergencies
  • Perform relatedworkduties as assigned

Required Education and Experience

At the time of application, applicant must:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Advance to Level 1 within eighteen (18) months of work experience

Other Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License
  • Ability towork irregular hours, commute to GLWA facilities andworksites, and respond to after-houremergenciesandon-call responses.

This position requires the ability to climb, bend, twist, carry, stack, dig,shovel,hit, push, pull, and other efforts requiring considerable physical strength. This position also requires the ability to lift aminimumof fifty (50) pounds, walk, stand, orworkforlongperiods, demonstrate normal color perception, hear audible alarms,detectabnormal equipment sounds, visuallyinspectequipment andprocessesatany timeof the day or night. Employeeswill be required towear respiratory protection and otherpersonalprotective equipment; perform scaffold, confined space, elevated and underground work.Employees willalso be required topassa bio-mechanical physical andvisiontest, yearly baseline physical, and fit test for respirator/Self Contained Breathing Apparatus. While performing the dutiesofthisposition,employeesare regularly required to use hands to handle, feel, or operate theequipment.

Environmental Working Requirements:

This position requires the ability toworkin all conditionsinvolvingexposure to outsideelements andseasonal weather. Work may be performed in a plant environment,nearopen water, systems with hazardous chemicals that are acidic, highlycorrosive,heat-producing, and potentially explosive, typically used in wastewater treatment. The noiselevelin thiswork environment isusuallyloud.Workmay beperformed in confined spaces, hazardous areas that require respiratory protection andpersonal protective equipment (PPE), and under slippery andwetconditions.
