Electrical Engineer Power Systems
Join us as aElectrical Engineer Power Systems on our Concept Engineering team in Hopkinton, MA or Round Rock, TX to do the best work of your career and make a profound social impact.
Dellâs Concept Engineering organization is responsible for exploring the boundaries of nextâgeneration datacenter and AI server architectures. Our crossâfunctional team develops earlyâphase designs, proofâofâconcept systems, and technology demonstrations that influence Dellâs long-term product strategy. We work at the intersection of electrical, mechanical, thermal, and system architecture to define what comes next.
What youâll achieve
We are seeking a highly experiencedElectrical Engineer specializing in highâcurrent and highâvoltage power distribution. If you have designed power distribution systems for demanding environmentsâsuch as electric vehicles, industrial power systems, highâdensity compute platforms, or advanced energy storageâthis role will leverage your deep expertise.
You will architect and designhigh-current DC bus bars, power shelves, HV/LV distribution networks, and highâpower PCB assemblies that support the next generation of AI compute platforms and datacenter rack-level architectures. This is an earlyâconcept role: you will explore new technologies, build prototypes, evaluate new materials, and guide systemâlevel decisions long before products enter development.
You will:
Lead the design, architecture, and analysis of highâcurrent, lowâvoltage DC powerâdistribution systems (1 kWâ100 kW+) for AI server and rackâscale platforms, including bus bars, highâpower PCBAs, and earlyâphase powerâdelivery concepts
Develop rackâlevel powerâdelivery components such as power shelves and battery interfaces, creating systemâlevel topologies focused on safety, thermal performance, and electrical integrity
Perform advanced simulations for current density, thermal behavior, electromagnetic/inductive/resistive effects, isolation/creepage/clearance, and EMI/EMC in highâcurrent applications
Collaborate crossâfunctionally with mechanical, thermal, and architecture teams to deliver manufacturable, scalable designs and support rapid prototyping, bringâup, and early validation
Document designs, drive trade studies, stay current on materials/connector technologies, and contribute to product strategy for nextâgeneration AI server powerâdelivery platforms
Essential Requirements
Bachelorâs or Masterâs degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 10+ years of experience in highâpower electrical system design across EV power paths, industrial/UPS systems, or highâcurrent DC/HV distribution
Expertise in designing highâcurrent DC bus bars, power shelves, and highâpower distribution assemblies
Strong experience with highâcurrent PCB design, including heavyâcopper layouts, embedded bus bars, and >100 Amps trace design
Deep understanding of UL/IEC safety standards, creepage/clearance requirements, and powerâsystem protection principles
Strong crossâfunctional communication skills with the ability to operate effectively in earlyâconcept, ambiguous design environments
Desirable Requirements
Experience with rackâscale or serverâlevel power architectures, AI server design constraints (thermal, mechanical, interconnect), and handsâon work such as rapid prototyping, custom busâbar fabrication, or HV system bringâup
Strong proficiency with simulation tools, including multiphysics solvers (Ansys, COMSOL), SPICE/PLECS for powerâsystem modeling, and thermalâanalysis tools for highâcurrent conductors
Compensation
Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this position is $221k - $286k.
