Great visual journalism stops people in their tracks. It's the image that sums up a community's biggest day, the video that captures the emotion of a breaking story – content that gets shared, watched and remembered. Â
The Courier,part of renowned publishing group, DC Thomson, is looking for a talented Photographer / Videographer to join our in-house News AV team and help create outstanding visual journalism for our trusted news brands both digitally and in print. Â
You'll be joining a team that is passionate about delivering high-quality visual journalism, where our audience needs come first and great storytelling, creativity and innovation are truly valued.  Â
You'll work alongside talented editors, reporters, photographers and digital specialists who all share the same goal – producing journalism that informs, engages and connects with the communities that we serve and champion across Tayside, Fife and Stirling.Â
The successful candidate will be on-the-road capturing the people, events and live news incidents which shape communities from Stonehaven to Stirling to Highland Perthshire. The role holder will have a full driving licence and will be expected to attend at DC Thomson’s offices in Dundee as required.Â

The Photographer / Videographer will deliver high quality photo and video content that supports The Courier’s ability to compete in a fast-moving media environment. Â
Working under the direction of the Senior Photographer / Videographer, Head of Photography, and relevant editors, the successful candidate will apply established techniques and guidelines to produce visual journalism that is timely, accurate and audience impactful.Â

Key responsibilities include:Â
- Producing high quality visual content that meets editorial, technical and legal standards.Â
- Delivering timely and accurate photo and video content that contributes to digital performance.Â
- Maintaining accurate metadata, captions and compliance checks following agreed workflows.Â
- Contributing visual insight during story development.Â
- Operating safely and effectively in the field, ensuring equipment is maintained and risks are identified early.Â
- Supporting continuous improvement by adopting new tools and sharing practical learning with colleagues.Â
Skills:Â Â
- Content creation - Applies established techniques to create high quality photo, video and multimedia assets.Â
- Digital media production - Prepares content for multiple platforms using standard tools and workflows.Â
- User experience evaluation - Understands audience behaviour and applies insight from audience-dervied data to improve visual impact.Â
- Information management - Maintains accurate metadata, cataloguing and compliance documentation.Â
- Incident management / safety - Works safely, identifies routine risks, and escalates when needed.Â
- Stakeholder management - Builds effective working relationships and communicates clearly.Â
- Problem management - Troubleshoots routine technical issues using established methods.Â

Experience:Â
- Experience producing visuals in live or fast-paced newsroom settings.Â
- Understanding of IPSO, legal and ethical considerations in visual journalism.Â
- Proficiency with industry standard tools (e.g., camera and video systems).Â
- Ability to work at pace across multiple brands with shifting priorities.Â
