About the Role

The Undergraduate Summer Internship Development Program (USID) at Loomis, Sayles & Company is a paid summer internship program for first-generation undergraduate students. The USID Program offers direct experience in a professional setting by completing meaningful project-based work and industry-specific professional development. The 10-week program combines work experience, technical skill- building, and professional development. The program emphasizes mastery of the NACE competencies: verbal and written communication, creative thinking, work ethic, collaboration, networking, decision-making, and problem-solving.

The internship is offered to those who are first in their family to attend college. Our goal is to provide a significant learning experience for deeply curious, hard-working students who have not historically had exposure or access to the investment management industry. Since this is a dynamic program, placement on a preferred team cannot be guaranteed; instead, we evaluate each participant’s current skill set and business needs when determining placement.

First-round interviews will be conducted on October 30 and November 2, with second-round interviews scheduled for November 6 and November 9. Candidates are expected to be available during these dates.

Job Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain regular reports used by members of the department and team placement
  • Prepare presentation materials, manipulate data, and present findings for team discussions and decision-making
  • Collaborate with team members on timely projects focused on market analysis, relative value in the market, or current economic analysis and trends
  • Attend team meetings and assist with follow-ups – providing reports and/or meeting minutes
  • Contribute to process improvement projects and help identify opportunities to enhance efficiency
  • Assist with ad hoc requests for special projects and prospect/client related inquiries
  • Participate and engage with weekly professional development workshops and investment professionals from across the firm

Qualifications & Education Requirements

  • Strong academic credentials with an interest in relevant coursework in business, finance, or economics
  • Interested in following the markets, with some basic understanding of investing
  • Self-starter, capable of monitoring and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task, but remain diligent and produce accurate work
  • Dependable teammate who understands the value of good communication skills
  • A positive approach and flexible attitude
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, including creating reports, synthesizing data, and developing charts and graphs
  • Individuals on student visas are not eligible for this internship
