Infrastructure Services Management - Senior Database Administrator

A typical day for theSenior Database Administrator / Backup Administrator

• Administer APS database platforms across environments, including monitoring, maintenance, patching, upgrades, refreshes, security administration and capacity planning. 
• Investigate performance, availability and capacity concerns, then implement practical remediation strategies that protect service continuity. 
• Administer enterprise backup and recovery systems, including monitoring backup completion, retention requirements and backup system health. 
• Execute and validate backup and restore activities for databases, servers, virtual environments, mailboxes and other supported assets as required. 
• Perform and document restore testing and disaster recovery validation to confirm recoverability and operational readiness. 
• Investigate backup failures and recovery issues, identify root causes and implement corrective actions that prevent repeat failures. 
• Work with application teams, infrastructure staff and vendors to design and support database and recoverability solutions aligned with operational needs. 
• Strengthen documentation, standards, procedures and automation so recurring manual effort is reduced over time. 
• Participate in on-call support rotations and contribute to root cause analysis after incidents or service interruptions. 

What you bring

• A degree or diploma with 5–6 years of directly related experience; or a certificate with 7–9 years of directly related experience. 
• In-depth knowledge of enterprise database administrationusing MS SQL Server, including database design, installation, configuration, maintenance, performance optimization, security and lifecycle management. 
• Advanced understanding of relational database concepts, data modelling and support for high-availability, high-reliability business applications. 
• Strong knowledge of database performance monitoring and tuning, capacity planning, fault isolation and remediation approaches. 
• In-depth knowledge of enterprise backup and recoveryusing Commvault or similar tools, including backup scheduling, retention management, restore operations, disaster recovery testing and recoverability validation. 
• Knowledge of recoverability assurance practices, including backup verification, restore testing, evidence retention and reporting to support audit, compliance and cyber-insurance obligations. 
• Experience with operating system concepts, administrative tooling, scripting and automation as they relate to database and backup administration. 
• Familiarity with IT service management concepts, including incident, problem and change management. 
• Clear communication skills, strong documentation habits and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical peers, stakeholders, leadership and vendors. 
• Professional resilience, accountability and adaptability in a hands-on operational and on-call environment.
