GIS Assessment Technician

Are you someone who enjoys working with maps, data, technology, and solving problems? Do you like digging into information to figure out how things fit together?

The Allen County Assessor’s Office is looking for aGIS Assessment Technician to join our team. This position combinesGIS, property data, research, and real-world problem solving to help maintain accurate property information for more than 160,000 parcels throughout Allen County.

What you’ll do

You’ll work with a variety of property and GIS data and help make sure our records accurately reflect what is happening on the ground. Your day-to-day work may include:

• Using GIS and mapping tools to research and maintain property information.
• Processing property transfers, parcel splits, combinations, and new subdivisions.
• Creating and updating parcels in our CAMA system, including ownership, addresses, legal descriptions, parcel numbers, and acreage.
• Reviewing aerial imagery, maps, and other information to make sure property lines and land characteristics are accurate.
• Maintaining agricultural property information, including acreage, soil types, and different land uses.
• Working with data received from the County Auditor and making sure it is processed accurately and on time.
• Researching and analyzing market data used in property valuation.
• Helping develop and analyze ratio studies and other assessment-related data.
• Using GIS to help answer questions about land use, measurements, parcel information, and other property characteristics.
• Working with other county departments, title companies, realtors, taxpayers, and outside agencies to resolve questions and keep property information accurate.
• Learning and applying Indiana laws, assessment standards, and procedures related to property valuation.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who iscurious, detail-oriented, comfortable with technology, and enjoys figuring things out.

You don’t have to know everything on day one. The right person will be willing to learn the assessment process and develop their knowledge of Indiana property assessment over time.

Ideally, you have:

• A high school diploma or GED.
• At least two years of GIS experience and an understanding of legal descriptions is preferred.
• Experience with GIS/ESRI or similar mapping software.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new software and systems.
• The ability to read maps, aerial photographs, and legal descriptions.
• An interest in working with data and solving problems.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to spot inconsistencies or errors.
• The ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and members of the public.

Experience withGIS, property assessment, CAMA systems, EagleView, mapping, real estate, surveying, or similar fields is helpful.

Professional certification

If you don't already have one, you'll be expected to obtain and maintain your Level II Assessor-Appraiser Certification within your first year. Level III certification is expected within two years.

The position works Monday through Friday,8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
