The primary responsibility of this role is to collaborate with part suppliers and contract manufacturers on both new and existing products to resolve product and process issues. This position requires strong engineering fundamentals, hands-on technical problem-solving capabilities, and solid design expertise to improve or correct products throughout their lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the NPI team on new product introduction projects, working closely with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Procurement, Sourcing, and Operations to ensure a smooth transition from design to stable mass production, aligned with program timelines and quality objectives.
- Support the design of3D CAD models and 2D drawings for components involving mechanisms, sheet metal structures, plastic housings, and gearing systems.
- ConductDesign for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA),Design for Inspection (DFI), andDesign to Cost (DTC) reviews to ensure designs are manufacturable, inspectable, and cost-effective.
- Drive cost-reduction initiatives throughValue Engineering and Design-to-Cost principles across the product development lifecycle.
- Review and approve tooling and manufacturing processes for fabricated parts, includingFirst Article Inspection (FAI) and verification of form, fit, and function at each development phase.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for product and process issues using structured problem-solving methodologies such as8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone diagrams.
- Apply statistical tools, includingprocess capability studies andDesign of Experiments (DOE), to optimize product and process performance.
- Perform functional and reliability testing during validation and verification phases in collaboration with the Quality team.
- Work closely with suppliers and contract manufacturers to qualifytooling, materials, jigs, and fixtures.
- Monitor customer feedback and field performance data to drive continuous improvement and inform future product enhancements.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously with minimal supervision while keeping stakeholders and management informed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong training and hands-on experience withstatistical-based problem-solving methods for product and process improvement.
- High proficiency in root cause analysis methodologies such as8D and 5-Why.
- Proficiency inPro/ENGINEER (Creo) is highly preferred;SolidWorks experience will also be considered. Experience withFEA simulation is an added advantage.
- Strong interest and aptitude inrobotics, kinematics, dynamics, mechatronics, and mechanism design.
- Experience ininjection-molded plastic part design, tooling best practices, and process parameter optimization.
- Proven experience bringing products fromconcept through high-volume manufacturing.
- Familiarity withsheet metal design and fabrication processes.
- Knowledge ofrapid prototyping techniques, including hands-on experience with3D printing, is a plus.
- Solid understanding ofGD&T principles.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 4 years of experience developing and launching consumer products, electro-mechanical devices, medical devices, automotive components, or similar in a high volume manufacturing environment
