Homeboy Industries provides hope, training, and support to formerly gang-involved and recently incarcerated people, allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of ourcommunity.

Job Title:Employment Counselor- Community

Reports To:Programs & Partnerships Manager

Summary

Under direct supervision of the Programs & Partnerships Manager, the Employment Counselor supports community clients through providingcommunity resources, support in removing barriers to employment and guidance towards stable employment.

Essential Duties andResponsibilities

  • This position will require a small caseload of 30-day / 60-day individuals to help them with outside employment and provide supportive services to remove identified barriers.
  • Acts as an on-site resource to individuals accessing the computer lab. Including but not limited to helping individuals access computer software.
  • Maintains a calendar of activities undertaken in the computer lab and tracks the number of individuals utilizing the lab.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to help individuals resolve issues and remain motivated to obtain and maintain outside employment.
  • Determine CAL-VIP grant eligibility and enroll / supportqualifiedindividuals through grant funds.
  • Track transitional employment progress (monthly check-ins and case notes through Care4)
  • Refer to Workforce activities, including resume building, practice interviews, job applications, computer assistance, cover letters, reference letters, job search guidance, etc.
  • Capture placements by collecting employment information or copy of theirpaystub.
  • Submit successstories.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of employment readiness classes and workshops for all clients.
  • Provide job retention / follow-up services to community clients
  • Participate in team meetings, maintain hard copies of participant files and supporting documentation of all services provided.
  • Refer community clients to other agencies forassistance.
  • Supervise Employment Service Assistant(s) in the computer lab and track theirhours.
  • Opens and closes the computer lab and renders the general cleanliness and capacity of workstations.
  • Attend morning meetings at 8:50am (Monday through Friday)
  • Reports maintenance problems to the Programs & Partnerships Manager as it occurs.
  • Enforces procedures for the use of computers, printer, copier, supplies, and other materials.

Qualifications

Basic Qualificationsinclude:

    • HSDiploma/GED,AA/BAdesirable
    • 1+ years of experience in workforcedevelopment
    • 1+ years of experience working with vulnerablepopulations
    • Optimistic and adaptive collaborator, even inambiguity
    • Able to work under pressure and maintain excellent time management and organizationalskills
    • Proficiency in all basic computer platforms, including word processing, presentation software, spreadsheets, client management software, and email
    • Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business and grant documentation
    • Able to present information in a variety of formats (narrative, statistical, oral)
    • Commitment to the mission and vision of Homeboy Industries, with a specific focus on achieving quality jobs for all trainees
