POSITION SUMMARY

TheWelder/Fitter performs fitting, fabrication, assembly, and welding operations in a production environment. This position reads and interprets engineered drawings, layouts and fits components,preparesmaterialsforassembly,andperformsARCandMIGweldingtomanufacturequalityproducts.TheWelder/Fitterensurescomponentsareproperlyaligned,fitted,andweldedinaccordancewithengineeringspecifications,qualityrequirements,andsafetystandards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Possessalltoolsrequiredtoperformessentialdutiesandresponsibilities.

• Readandinterpretengineereddrawings,blueprints,weldingsymbols,andspecifications.

• Measure,mark,andverifydimensionsusingappropriatemeasuringequipment.

• Performlayout,fit-up,alignment,andassemblyoffabricatedcomponents.

• Setupandoperateweldingequipment,ensuringpropermachinesettingsforweldpenetrationandappearance.

• Selectelectrodes,weldingwire,tips,rods,andconsumablesappropriatefortheworkbeingperformed.

• Position,clamp,andtackweldpartstosecureproperalignmentbeforefinalwelding.

• Turnregulatorvalvesandadjustgasmixturesandpressurestoobtaindesiredcuttingandweldingcharacteristics.

• Guideelectrodesorweldinggunsalongweldlines,maintainingproperarclength,travelspeed,andweldquality.

• Weldflat,cylindrical,structural,orirregularcomponentsaccordingtospecifications.

• Examineweldsandassembliesforbeadsize,dimensionalaccuracy,fit,andqualityrequirements.

• Repairdefectiveweldsandperformreworkasneeded.

• Operategrindersandotherfabricationtoolstoprepareandfinishweldedassemblies.

• Identifyandreportmaterial,drawing,fit-up,orqualitydiscrepancies.

• Maintainaclean,safe,andorganizedworkarea.

• Performotherdutiesasassigned.

• Maintainregularattendanceandworkovertimeasrequiredtosupportproductiondemands.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required 

• Experience: One tothreeyearsofwelding,fitting,fabrication,manufacturing,orrelatedexperience,oranequivalentcombinationofeducationandexperience.Experiencereadingblueprintsandperformingfit-upoffabricatedassembliesispreferred.

• Computer Skills: Basic computer skills.

• Other Requirements: Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence, effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills: Abiity to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables i situations wher eonly limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
