Laboratory Coordinator
DEPARTMENT:

SUPERVISOR:
Dean, College of Science, Technology & Mathematics
PURPOSE:
We areseekinga LabCoordinatorto manage the daily operations of our Biology and Chemistry teaching laboratories.Inthis role,youwilloverseelabequipment andsupplymaintenance, assist faculty andstudentsinsettingup experiments, and ensure compliance with safety protocols. The LabCoordinatorwill also handle inventory management andsupportadministrative tasks suchaspreparing reports and coordinating lab-related activities andevents.Ifthe successfulcandidate holds aMaster'sdegree,there may be an opportunity for instruction aswell.Ideal candidates should havestrongorganizationalskills,asolidunderstanding of laboratoryoperations,and a commitmenttomaintaining a safe andefficient
learning environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lab Setup and Maintenance: Prepare and set up laboratory experiments,ensuring that all equipment and materials are available and functional before classes begin.
- Inventory Management: Maintain an accurateinventoryof laboratory supplies,chemicals, and equipment. Place orders as needed to ensure laboratories are fully stocked.
- Safety and Compliance:Ensureall laboratory practicescomplywith institutional,state, and federal safety regulations,includingthehandling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- EquipmentMaintenance: Oversee the cleaning,calibration, and routine maintenance oflaboratoryequipmentandinstruments.Arrange for repairs or replacements as needed.
- Student and Faculty Support: Assist students during lab sessions with the proper use of equipment and safelaboratorypractices. Provide instructional support to faculty asneededfor labcourses.
- Training:Train students and teaching assistants on safety protocols, labequipmentuses, and proper procedures for experiments.
- Documentation and Recordkeeping:Maintainrecords of laboratory usage, inventory, and chemical storage.Ensureall safety documents (SDS)areupdated andaccessible.
- Supervision:Supervisestudent assistants orwork-studystudentswho help with lab preparations and cleanup.
- Teach introductory labs for biologyorchemistryandlabs for non-majors (Master's degree)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:ABachelor's degree in Biology,Chemistry,oraclosely related fieldisrequired. A Master'sdegree in arelevant disciplineis preferred and mayallowfor additional responsibilities such asinstructinglabsessions.
- Experience: Previousexperienceinalaboratory setting,particularly in an academic environment,ishighly desirable.Experience withlaboratorymanagement,inventory control,andsafety protocols is a plus.
- Technical Skills:Familiaritywith standard laboratory equipment,techniques, and procedures used in both biology and chemistry labs. Knowledge of proper safety protocols and hazard management.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with faculty,students,and staff.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent attentiontodetail and the abilitytomanage multipletasks,prioritize responsibilities,and maintain accurate records.
- Teamwork: Ability to work independently as wellascollaborateeffectively withfaculty, students, and other staff members.
HOURS: Eight(8)hours per day, Monday -Friday40hours a week. Additional hours worked asneeded.
