Division Safety Representative – WSBOSC  

Location:Multiple locations 

Type: Non-Exempt 

Work Schedule:On Call, Variable 

Compensation:$0.50 above the current rate of pay 

 

This position is only available forWSBOSCemployees in the following shops:  

 

ADMIN (Business/Procurement/Safety) • Warehouse Operations • Production • HVAC • Electrical • Fire Alarms and Swing Shift • Mechanical • Structures • DDC • SWFPAC • NUWC Keyport • PSNS Bremerton • NAVMAGII • Transportation Ops • Fleet • Bremerton Janitorial Operations • Bangor/Keyport Janitorial Operations • Bangor/Keyport Grounds 

 

This position will be considered extra duties given to you, and you will becompensated anadditional $0.50 per hour. 

 

  • This position has up to a 3-year employee commitment as a division safety representative. One year of regular duty with twoadditional one-year extensions possible based on performance and good employee feedback. 

  • For the first90 days as the Safety representative, the employee will be under probation with the Safety Manager. 

 

Typical duties include but are not limited to:  

  • Attend and activelyparticipate in safety committee meetings. 

  • Coordinate daily safety topics for shop meetings and log completion on N=WSBOSC Safety Representative workorder. 

  • Update site workers on any safety policy changes or safety improvements. 

  • Review AHA’s and help with the development and revision ofAHA’s. 

  • Work with your supervisor toeliminate hazardous conditions and unsafe work practices. Intervene if you believe an employee is engaged inan unsafe work practice. 

  • Assist with accident investigations that occur in your department. 

  • Conduct monthly safety inspections of work areas. Document and report all deficiencies. 

  • Listen to employee suggestions about safety and bring those thatappear to have merit to the SSHO for review. 

  • As a Safety Representative, it is important that you conduct yourself in a safe and professional manner. Non-compliance with site policy, OSHA, or EM385 rules may result in removal as a safety representative. 

  • The safety representative position is a compensated collateral duty. However, your primary job duties and responsibilities come first and should not be neglected. 

 

Qualifications:   

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals, books, websites, and documents. 

  • Ability to respond to inquiries and complaints from employees and refer them to the Site Manager or Supervisor. 

  • Ability to define problems, collect data,establish facts, and draw conclusions from a variety of instructions and forms. 

 

 

Physical Requirements: 

Employees must have the ability toperform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or withoutassistance. The physical demands of this position may bereasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.   

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to50 pounds. 

  • May berequired to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties. 

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also berequired.  

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

  • A valid state driver’s license isrequired with the ability to obtain andmaintain coverage byTessera’s insurance.
