Regional Expat Medical Product Head
Reporting to the Head of Accident and Health (A&H) for EMEA, the Regional Expat Medical Product Head has accountability for both top and bottom-line results within the region for both new and existing products. In partnership with local A&H teams, the Product Head will develop, execute, and monitor the regional product development and underwriting strategies, pricing guardrails, and strategic roadmap for Expat Medical Products. This role has P&L responsibility for top and bottom-line results for Expat Medical Products and will lead the development and execution of Expat Medical strategies. The overall objective for Expat Medical is growth, and the trajectory is to double the portfolio within a 3-year period. The current geographical footprint includes 16 countries.
Job Responsibilities
Lead the Regional teams to meet planned financial and operating targets
- Responsible for achievement of financial targets for revenue, profit and growth for Expat Medical offerings
- Achieve new business and retention objectives
- Deliver on underwriting profit results with focus on loss ratio and combined ration
- Lead the Expat Medical Hub to achieve defined objectives
- Manage field pipeline and activity goals for underwriting teams
Govern the Underwriting Process
- Develop underwriting framework, best practices, underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, authorities and tools (e.g., rating, pricing, product features and risk segmentation) across Expat Medical businesses
- Handles referrals within stated authority. Analyse and underwrite large accounts and complex risks. Provide detailed explanation of decisions made to enhance knowledge of underwriters
- Drive consistent underwriting, claims and portfolio management best practices and guidelines across region and segments to ensure rating and pricing adequacy of the business
- Â Oversee portfolio management to direct strategic underwriting decisions. Provide leadership in the decision making on required actions. Ensure execution on agreed upon underwriting corrective action plans
- Review, evaluate, and recommend modifications to underwriting guidelines and workflows.
- Ensures effective utilization of monitoring standards including audits, quality reviews and peer reviews to assess underwriting results and loss ratios
- Ensure all underwriting initiatives are complaint with local regulations and aligned with A&H strategic objectives and global principles for risk appetite
Oversee Product Development Process and activities
- Develop and execute a product development strategy focused on differentiated customers and position AIG as a leader on product value
- Develop and co-own multi-year product strategy roadmap for Expat Medical to support growth through market and product expansion opportunities
- Provide leadership to ensure product integrity and support the development of new products and/or product enhancements. Provide concise guidelines to field management for localized product development activities
- Perform market and competitor analysis and study opportunities for product refinements, and recommend new product options and enhancements
- Work with marketing and distribution staff in the field to commercialize products and develop marketing calendars
- Ensure all product initiatives are compliant with local regulations and aligned with A&H strategic objectives and global principles for risk appetite
Work with general and LOB management to plan and execute business
- Establish and leverage strong relationships with Regional and Country leadership. Create mutual understanding of Expat Medical product strategy to drive effective execution of business model
- Matrix lead UW teams to deliver on departmental goals & objectives and ensuring organizational structure and processes are best fit to serve external and internal customers.
- Collaborate with technical and functional departments across the wider business
- Partner with Underwriting to execute on Product priorities – defining customer needs, product coverages, developing policy wording and underwriting guidelines
- Partner closely with Regional Pricing Actuaries and Business Analytics on pricing and portfolio strategies. Ensure adequate and regular monitoring and analysis of the performance for Expat products.
Move the organization forward in terms of training and staff development
- Oversee training and field questions on product offerings
- Enable knowledge transfer for product ideas and underwriting/pricing best practices across markets to educate country management of available products to be considered in local markets. Build systemic ways to facilitate exchange of knowledge.
- Develop tools and strategies, in collaboration with HR, to attract and retain top industry talent and develop high performing teams

Job Requirements
Technical Skills and Experience      Â
- Preferred minimum of 10+ years of underwriting or product management experience in A&H products, including oversight of Expat Medical products in multiple geographies with P&L responsibility
- Expert understanding of the Expat Medical/iPMI industry including business model E2E and strong technical underwriting skills
- Demonstrated business savviness, analytical and quantitative skills
- Experience working in a global matrix organisation
- Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition and multiple distribution systems
- Demonstrated success in using research, analytics and testing methodologies to make product decisions
- Significant experience in managing product development activities and a proven track record in achieving objectives and targets
- Established strong relationships with customers, intermediaries, and regulators

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Capable of influencing and building consensus at
all levels of the organization. Ability to work across interdisciplinary teams that are geographically dispersed and cultivating a network of productive relationships in an international matrix environment - Experience of working as part of a senior management team and leading and articulating organizational strategy
