Job Summary

Ensure the availability of direct and indirect materials at the plant to meet customer orders on time, based on short- and long-term master production plans, while maintaining inventory levels aligned with company objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Properly execute purchasing procedures and develop improvements to the material procurement process.
  • Analyze raw material requirements based on short- and long-term master planning schedules (CTB).
  • Identify material shortages and excess inventory in a timely manner, taking appropriate corrective and escalation actions.
  • Execute exception messages, including expediting, delaying, or canceling orders to maintain the required inventory levels.
  • Analyze purchasing requirements and place orders in a timely manner to meet supplier lead times (LT).
  • Generate purchase orders on time and obtain the appropriate approvals to support production requirements.
  • Coordinate effective supplier meetings to strengthen customer-supplier relationships and prevent material shortages.
  • Seek procurement alternatives from approved AVL suppliers to avoid production line stoppages and submit PPV approvals when required.
  • Ensure VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) part numbers are properly controlled to prevent excess inventory, obsolescence, or unexpected shortages.
  • Provide suppliers with forecasts based on ERP system requirements.
  • Coordinate the supply chain from supplier locations through receipt at the Chihuahua plant, including shipment tracking, customs processes, and international logistics.
  • Prepare material shortage reports in a timely manner for follow-up and internal communication.
  • Maintain ERP data current and accurate, including MOQ, approved pricing, supplier contacts, and other relevant information.
  • Obtain quotations and perform supplier analysis for new product introduction (NPI) components.
  • Purchase prototype materials for engineering changes, product substitutions, and product transfers.
  • Maintain effective communication with Planning and Warehouse departments regarding material arrivals.
  • Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly planning and production meetings.
  • Attend internal meetings and meetings with external service providers.
  • Maintain communication with the Customs department and warehouse personnel in El Paso regarding imports.
  • Complete required purchasing training and certifications.
  • Maintain purchasing metrics within established targets, including Inventory Turns, PPV, Material Shortages, RDSL, and avoidance of additional freight costs.
  • Implement continuous improvement and cost-saving projects.
  • Participate in annual physical inventories and other inventory activities as required by the company.
  • Actively participate in sales forecast and inventory projection meetings based on component availability.
  • Ensure data integrity of assigned components, including analysis, cycle count requests, inventory adjustments, and supplier discrepancy resolution.
  • Prepare and maintain procedures required for ISO certification audits.
  • Manage and resolve any issues related to assigned components within the purchasing function.
  • Comply with plant safety objectives and quality procedures.

Authority

  • Determine purchasing quantities.
  • Pull in or push out purchase orders as required.
  • Request special shipping methods or expedited transportation.
  • Recommend supplier recognition or performance penalties.

Basic Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of purchasing experience, preferably with electronic components.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems such as JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced English proficiency (90%+, both written and verbal). Mandatory.
  • Flexibility in working hours.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Excellent attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
