Join our Core Platforms Crew and help shape the future of Observability and Service Management technologies across CommBank. We are modernising the platforms, practices and processes that enable engineers to build, monitor and operate reliable technology services for millions of customers.

As an Engineering Manager and Chapter Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in leading a team of engineers responsible for delivering scalable, secure and reliable platform capabilities. You'll work at the intersection of engineering leadership, technology strategy and operational excellence, helping to drive innovation while ensuring our platforms continue to evolve to meet the needs of one of Australia's largest and most complex technology environments.

You'll be responsible for

• Leading, coaching and developing a team of engineers while fostering a high-performing and inclusive culture.

• Delivering reliable, secure and scalable technology outcomes aligned to business priorities.

• Enabling engineers to do their best work through effective prioritisation, removal of impediments and continuous improvement.

• Partnering with Product, Architecture and other stakeholders to balance customer, technical and commercial outcomes.

• Championing engineering excellence through modern software engineering, DevSecOps, automation and observability practices.

• Building team capability through mentoring, recruitment, succession planning and career development.

• Driving operational excellence across service reliability, risk management, security and compliance.

• Using engineering metrics and insights to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and increased effectiveness.

Skills & experience

• Proven experience leading engineering teams within large-scale enterprise environments.

• Strong leadership, stakeholder management and people development capabilities.

• Experience managing budgets, financial controls and reporting responsibilities.

• Exposure to observability practices and technologies, OpenTelemetry (OTEL), ServiceNow and cloud-based platforms.

• Experience working with AWS and/or Azure cloud technologies and modern cloud architectures.

• Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker.

• Strong understanding of operational excellence, service reliability, risk and security practices.

• Experience using metrics and data-driven insights to uplift engineering performance and capability.
