Position Summary

The purpose of the Nordic Supervisor position is to ensure an outstanding guest experience for all Nordic guests through daily leadership and oversight ofNordic departmental personnelin accordance with company and departmental policies. 

The position requires a strong interest andproficiency in Nordic skiing; a basic understanding of Nordic grooming; and a complete knowledge of allNordic Center services anddailyoperations. This is a full-time and seasonal position; however, hours may be reduced at various times during the season.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities


Daily Operations 

  • Perform opening and closing duties of daily business and facilities. 

  • Participate in a morning Ops meeting with Nordic grooming, patrol, and manager todetermine tasks, concerns, andoperatingstatus for the day. 

  • Prepare the Daily Conditions Report. 

  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of the Lodge facility,contacting Lodge Services and Building Maintenance whenrequired. 

  • Handle and coordinateNordic Centerincidents, contacting emergency personnel whenrequired. 

  • Provide gracious and effective handling of all guest and employee concerns and problems. 

  • Communicate regularly with the Nordic Managerregarding safety issues, operational needs,staffing, and personnel issues. 

Nordic Ticketing and Guest Services 

  • Ensure efficient andaccurate performanceand sales at theNordicticketing desk. 

  • Train and oversee the Lodge Staff team,supporting them as needed. 

  • Answer awide range of guest and employee questions in-person, via phone, and via email, always employing superb customer service. 

Retail Shop 

  • Ensureaccuratesales, security, andmerchandising ofretail inventory. 

  • Assist shopperswithretail purchases,questions, and concerns. 

  • Maintaina high level of product knowledge and support the Lodge Staff inmakingretail sales and keeping up the shop.

NordicSki School

  • Facilitate program sales online,viaphone, and inperson. Answer detailed questionsregarding scheduling,scope, instructor qualifications, and more.This requiresuse of severalcomplex computerprograms(RTP andFlaik),patience,and exceptional customer service. 

  • Perform dailylesson and instructorassignments with a high degree of attention to detail. 

  • Check in students,collect payments,ensure lessons start on time, and troubleshoot challenges that may arise before, during, and after lessons. 

NordicRentals

  • Overseedaily rental operations and staff, ensuring that rentalequipment is correctly sold, distributed, and fitted for customers andthat it isreturnedin good condition at the end of the day.  

  • Ensure that the Nordic rental fleet is regularly waxed andmaintained in good repair. 

  • Ensure that customer waxes and repairs are completed in a high-quality andtimely manner. 

Nordic Cafe

  • Assist the Nordic Cafe Staff as needed, including preparing food, washing dishes, and stocking as directed by the Cafe Lead. 

  • Coordinate with the Cafe Staff and Nordic Manager to cover the Cafe Staff during lunch and rest breaks as needed. 

  • Ensure health and safety standards are met at all times and troubleshoot issues promptly as they arise. 

Staff Management 

  • Train and oversee the Lodge Staff team who work in Nordic ticketing, rentals, and retail roles.Troubleshootchallengesas theyarise.Manage the rest and meal break schedule for the Lodge Staff team.Through training, culture, and daily management, support this team to succeed in their roles. 

  • Make daily lesson assignments for the Nordic Instructors and communicatethe daily lesson schedule to the Instructor Team. UseFlaik and RTP for this work. 

  • Provide support as needed to Nordic Staff in other roles including Cafe Staff, Outdoor Attendants, Event Staff, Trail Stewards, and Nordic Patrollers. This may include training, break coverage, covering positions when short-staffed,troubleshooting of all types, andmaintaining open lines of communication with all staff. 

  • Conduct Mid-Season Reviews and regular check-ins with all Nordic Staff.

Secondary Function

  • Assist in marketing andpromotions of programs and events. 

  • Assist in maintenance of social media accounts. 

  • Assist with planning and execution of Nordic Center Events. 

  • Nordic Supervisors are encouraged to take onadditional responsibilities as theirparticular skill sets, interests, andbandwidth allows. 

Job Scope

Assist in management of nationally recognized Nordic ski operation,56 km groomed trail networkmaintained daily from November through May. This role includes training, motivating, and creating asafe workplace for 45 paid employees and 12 volunteers.Work closely with many other resort departments and participate in the coordination of programs and partnerships with area businesses, communitygroups, and Central Oregon areaschools and teams. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Number of Employees Supervised:Up to 40 

  • PrimaryPositions Supervised:Nordic Lodge Staff

  • Additional Positions Supervised:Nordic Trail Steward, Nordic Outdoor Attendant, Nordic Instructors, Nordic Events Staff, Nordic Pro Patrol, &Nordic Cafe Staff. 

  • Scheduling and Assigning Work:Instructor lesson assignments.Daily operations tasks and breaks forLodge Staff. 

  • Training: Conduct stafftraining, primarily for Lodge Staff, on a regular basis. 

  • Disciplinary Actions:Initial counseling asrequired, proactive communication of disciplinary issues with NordicManager. 

  • Performance Review:Mid-Season Employee Reviews. 

 

Interpersonal Contacts

Nordic Staff in all roles, Nordic NSP,Grooming,IT, Public Safety,Guest Services, Lodge Services, F&B,Finance, Mountain Patrol, MBSEF, Facilities Maintenance, Receiving,Marketing, & Group Sales. 

 

Specific Job Skills

  • License/Certifications: OLCC and Oregon Food Handler’s cardsrequired. PSIA Level 1+ preferred.  

  • Technical: Nordic skiing proficiency inclassic and skating techniques. Able to ski all trails in the trail network. Competent and efficient computer skills, cash handling, use of waxing irons, scrapers, drills, hand tools, shovels, axe, splitting maul, ice chipper. 

  • Physical Capabilities: Able to stand forlong periods of time.Frequent trips up and down stairs.Reach, lift, and perform outdoorchores ininclement weather. Able to Nordic ski at an advanced level. 

Education/Related Experience 

  • Minimum Education Required: None.Ability toread, write,follow, and give directions. 

  • Minimum Time in Related Position:3 years in guest service-related positions.Managerial orsupervisory experience preferred. Nordic Center work experience preferred.
